Moving out of the house is a huge step. It’s a milestone for some people. I have lived with my parents for 20 years now, and it’s finally time for me to leave the nest (even though I will only be one town away.) Whether you’re moving to a nearby town or across the country, I can bet these are some of the questions you will ask your mom before you leave the nest-- or you’ll at least think about asking her.

1. How much soap do you put in when you’re doing your laundry?

2. How do you know whether you should use hot water or cold water when you’re doing your laundry?

3. Can I dry everything in the dryer?

4. Do you change the coffee filter each time you make coffee?

5. Come to think of it, how do you make coffee?

6. How long does it take to boil water?

7. What day is garbage day?

8. How many days can I go past the “use by” date in case I didn’t really use it by the “use by” date?

9. Where does the window washer fluid go?

10. What is my social security number?

11. Do I have an insurance card?

12. Where is my original birth certificate?

13. How do I know I won’t get salmonella from the chicken?

14. How many days a week can I come back home for dinner?

15. If I am coming back, can I at least bring my laundry?

16. How long do you hold the iron down on your clothes when ironing?

17. When I go out to eat how much do I leave for a tip?

18. How do I write a check?

19. Will you still call me and be my alarm clock in the morning?

20. What do you cook in a crock pot?

21. Can I put tupperware in the microwave?

22. Did we switch doctor’s offices?

23. If I get Jury Duty do I really have to go?

24. What days are the post office closed?

25. What is the maximum amount of tylenol I can take at one time?

26. You're not going to turn my room into like an office space, right?

27. Can I come home…?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
