26 Texts That You Send To Your Roommate

Roommates are people who have the potential to make life really great or really terrible. If you get unlucky and end up stuck with a roommate who you don’t get along with, it makes for a pretty difficult year and an uncomfortable living situation. However, when you end up living with the right roommate, life couldn’t be better.

The perfect roommate is hard to find and, therefore, should be treasured. The perfect roommate, typically, is someone who understands your weird quirks, who shares your weird eating habits, who will never judge you, and who is so much more than the average roommate. You see each other at your best and you see each other at your absolute worst, but you’re there for one another through it all. You might occasionally have arguments or get annoyed with each other, but you know that you’ll get over it and probably laugh over whatever upset you in the first place.

When you find the right roommate, you just know. They make your life so much better. There’s no one else who you want to wake up and see first thing in the morning and there's no one else who you want to complain to every day about annoying peers, professors, or assignments.

You also know that you can say—or text—whatever crazy thing you think of as frequently as you want and at any hour of the day (or night). Chances are good that they’ve said—or at least thought—something pretty similar. Sometimes, roommate texts are totally normal, but when you share so much of your time and space with one individual, things can get a little weird. Here’s a list of 26 types of texts that you send to your roommate with no shame (all of which are actual texts that I have sent to or received from my roommate at some point during this school year).

1. "Can I eat your pizza"

This was asked while already going in for a slice, most likely. It doesn't matter if you say yes or no, you know that they're going to eat the pizza.

2. "Are you ready?"

3. "Are you still awake?"

Don’t we live in the same room? We are five feet away from each other. Why are you texting me this question?

4. "I hate this class"

5. "When are you coming back?"

6. "Are you coming back tonight or…?"

7. "Miss you :’( "

Even though I saw you three hours ago, it's hard to be apart!

8. "Can I borrow your phone charger?"

If I say no, you'll probably just do it anyway.

9. "Can we walk over together?"

I mean, we do live in the same room, so I'll meet you in five.

10. "Can you swipe me in?"

11. "Study break?"

This text usually comes about 20 minutes after studying began.

12. "Wanna go to the grill?"

“It will be super quick, I promise,” typically follows, which we both know is a lie. This is usually used as a study break and typically to get milkshakes, which is always a great late-night decision.

13. "I baked 72 cookies and didn’t realize it until after lol"

Followed by the inevitable "OK, so can I eat some cookies?" No, absolutely not, I'm going to totally eat all of these by myself.

14. "They have waffle fries. I repeat: they have waffle fries."

You get very important and always healthy updates.

15. "F*** econ"

16. "Debating whether or not to skip class tomorrow…"

"Do it," is typically going to follow, because we're terrible influences on one another.

17. "Can we cuddle tonight and have a 'Girls' marathon?"

Roomie cuddle sessions are the cure for all ills.

18. "I have no idea what I want to do with my life"

NBD, I'm just experiencing a major crisis. Please just let me panic.

19. "I give up"

20. "Laundry just finished the 3rd cycle, still damp. Curse Centre’s laundry machines."

21. "Headed to dinner"

This is a text that is received almost daily, to the point where you don't even think about it. It's just habit.

22. "Yoda says welcome, you are"

23. "If I dress up as Daenerys Targaryen for Halloween, would you be interested in dressing up as my pet dragon lol"

24. "HE MAKES ME SO NERVOUS I’M SWEATING"

There's nothing quite like freaking out about boys and bonding over abnormal sweating, am I right?

25. "A bug flew in my ear"

Yes, that is an actual text that I received that is so unbelievable, I had to provide photographic evidence. You can't make this stuff up, people

26. "I love you"

There's no text quite like an “I love you” text from your favorite person in the world. This text reminds you that, despite everything, you're so lucky to spend every day with your best friend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
