25 Ways To Keep Your Childlike Innocence
Book of Imagination

Growing up sucks.

You start to get all of these responsibilities such as getting a job and paying bills. Where is the fun in that? Not only is being an adult hard work, it also can get kind of scary.

You start to see the world in ways you never imagined when you were a child. The magic just seems to disappear all together, and you stop believing in all of the things you did as a kid.

All of the things we used to love when were kids have become unimportant and are now seen as inappropriate. Since when did being "childish" become a bad thing? Obviously, throwing tantrums and such is not OK, but why has play become a thing just for kids?

I am 23 years old, and I still consider myself to be a kid. I refuse to let the harsh reality of adulthood dull my view of the world. Here are some things you can do to retain a part of your childlike view of the world, and bring the magic of imagination back into your life.

1. Look for figures in the clouds.

2. Watch movies from your childhood.

3. As Alice does, imagine six impossible things before breakfast.

4. Build a fort out of sheets.

5. Make up a story.

6. Write a letter to Santa.

7. Dress up as your favorite animated character.

8. Play a board game.

9. Draw a picture.

10. Look at childhood photos.

11. Tell/laugh at a cheesy joke.

12. Go on an imaginary adventure.

13. Read a book from your childhood.

14. Have a tea party.

15. Learn a few magic tricks.

16. Dress up as your favorite superhero.

17. Skip rope for fun and not to work out.

18. Suck the helium out a balloon.

19. Have a slumber party with your friends.

20. Sing karaoke.

21. Make up a game.

22. Turn OFF the news.

23. Tell ghost stories (in your blanket fort).

24. Swim for fun/play mermaids.

25. Go on a search for fairies.

Growing up is something no one can avoid. We all have to face the harsh reality of the world at some point, but we have to remember what it was like to be child. We have to continue to believe in magic and the impossible because this is how the good things happen. This is how doctors find cures and people fall in love.

People believe in things that are nearly impossible to believe in, and miracles happen.

So, believe in fairies and dragons.

Believe in the impossible. Do things that remind you of how you once saw the world.

That is where true happiness lies.

What are some ways you hold onto your childhood?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
