25 Things I Learned From My Dad

Rarely do we recognize the everyday gifts our fathers give us, and rarely do we appreciate the wisdom both of our parents have. Although the individuals we view as our parents are not perfect -- because no one is -- they try and provide us with the most they can to ensure we become the best versions of ourselves. We learn from their mistakes; we adjust from their criticism; we recognize success from their failures; we determine what is right from their wrongs; and we avoid lust from viewing their love.

Although moms normally receive all the glory, I have learned some of the most valuable life lessons through my dad. It seems hard to be a parent, but I think the best gift you can give to a child is the gift of wisdom: the quality of having knowledge and good judgment, and being wise. Here are some of the wise ways I learned from my dad.

1. Hold on to the good memories.

2. In terms of friends -- quality over quantity.

3. Hard work pays off.

4. Nothing good happens after midnight.

5. Persistence wins out.

6. It is worth it at the top.

7. Laugh often.

8. Buy a boat.

9. Be open to criticism.

10. When driving, and in life, always look at the signs.

11. There is always a bright side to sacrificing something.

12. Never stop learning.

13. Screaming is not the answer.

14. Be forgiving.

15. Practice makes perfect.

16. Know how to ride a bike.

17. Do not ever equate Manchester United to Chelsea.

18. Someone has it a lot worse than you.

19. It is okay to cry during a Disney movie.

20. Life is short, make it count.

21. Commit to your partner.

22. Dream big dreams.

23. Family consists of reciprocated relationships.

24. Our hardships develop our strengths.

25. He will always be my number one man.

Although some may feel there is a limit to what they can talk to their fathers about, sometimes it is worth pushing that boundary. Under the macho image, there is a sensitive heart. I guarantee you will be surprised by the wisdom your parents possess, and how much more insightful they can be about relationships and drama, in relation to your best friends.

Thank you, Dad, for everything you do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
