Bustle, 10 Signs You're a Bibliophile

Hello fellow bookworms! Have you ever thought about your reading or book loving habits? If so, you're probably like me and wonder if anyone else does this too. Or you'll find another fellow book enthusiast and fall in love with them because you both have the same traits! Maybe you were the only kid who identified with Belle in Beauty and the Beast when she reread the same books over and over again. You've also most likely been this way your whole life, because it is a lifelong love. Being a bibliophile is something to be proud of! Even if we do have some quirks... Yet, I feel like it's not discussed enough. Whenever a friend complains about being tired from binge watching Netflix and staying up too late, everyone else in the room immediately agrees and nods, yet when you complain about being exhausted because you couldn't put your book down, everyone kinds of looks away and crickets chirp to remind you that no one else feels like this. So, if you've ever felt alone in your bibliophile status, then here are a few things that almost every book lover is guilty of to make you feel less alone...

1. You always pack more books than you need

You just can't decide on which book to bring, so obviously the solution is to bring all of them...

2. Books might be better than people...

It's ok if you prefer books to people at times

3. The library is your haven

You know the librarians on a first name basis, and you could spend hours browsing books and soaking in everything

4. You've spent many a sleepless night, finishing a book you can't bear to put down

Yes, those dark circles are a result from a good story

5. You've probably been in trouble once or twice for reading instead of doing what you're supposed to

Who else has been reprimanded by a teacher or parent for reading instead of paying attention? I've actually had a professor tell me to put a book away and pay attention, but to be fair, it was Health and I wasn't going to pay attention anyways...

6. You ran out of room on your bookshelf a long time ago

I know I have a dangerously high pile of books in my corner which may or may not cause my death... But what a way to go

7. You're usually in between 3 different books

I feel like people judge me for reading more than one book at a time, but some days I need variety

8. You know every book has its own smell

Who hasn't given a book a good sniff? Yeah it sounds crazy, but everyone does it

9. Spending money on food? Maybe... Books? Certainly!

My bank account cries every time I enter a bookstore

10. You only lend out your babies to those you can trust

Never lend a book to just anyone, and if you've been burned before, then you understand.

11. You delight in organizing your books

You rearrange your shelf all the time, which lets you spend more time with your book children! You love to do it differently too and you love just looking at the masterpiece you've created...

12. Used book stores are goldmines!

There's nothing better than spending hours in a used bookstore, where you hunt for reasonably priced treasures. You also have the excuse to get more books because you're actually saving money even though you have no money to spend. You also use the excuse of supporting local businesses, but really they're just supporting your habit.

13. You have a dream library mapped out in your mind

Who has not imagined the dream library? Mine includes trick bookshelf which leads into an amazing cozy reading nook where all of my favorite books and snacks are.

14. You tend to judge a person by their taste in books

It's always awkward when you excitedly start discussing books only to realize you have opposite tastes than that person...

15. You usually have more than one copy of the same book

I am so guilty of this. I buy a book, then I buy it again because it's a new edition, or maybe it has gorgeous artwork, or I forgot I already had it but I can't get rid of it now...

16. You get excited when you get books as gifts

Most people sigh, we jump for joy

17. Your dream man or woman is probably a literal work of fiction

Everyone has their dream fictional guy or girl. For a lot of people, it's Mr. Darcy or Heathcliff on the wild moors. For me, my heart has been captured by Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables.

18. Books can be associated with the best memories

I can't pick up one of my books without remembering something about it, like where I got it, where I first read it, or who gave it to me.

19. You buy more books before you've finished the ones you have now...

You feel like you have a serious problem... You cannot not buy a book you fall in love with, even if you still haven't finished the ones you have now

20. Kindles are the enemy

This is the worst nightmare for book lovers. Reading is a sacred experience and technology cannot compare.

21. You are always in search of the perfect reading space

For those who remember this scene, Rory is willing to pay for her reading spot, because one's spot is sacred space.

22. You tend to get sucked into a book and forget there's life going on around you

I've literally had people yell at me to get my attention because I've become so lost in a new world.

23. Finishing a book can be the worst

Sometimes you put off finishing a book for a month or more because you know life will not be the same once you turn the last page.

24. You bring a book with you everywhere, just in case

You never know what will happen, and when it does, who's the winner? You, cause you've got a book to read now, suckers!

25. You hate movies based on books

Why can't they ever just get it right?!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
