25 Covers Worth Listening Too

If there is one thing I love about music is the way people can make it their own. There are many artists in the world that can take a popular song and turn it into something totally different than the original. Most of the time these covers are acoustic. And one thing I love about acoustic versions is how raw and unforgiving it can be. I say unforgiving because the listener can hear more mistakes in an acoustic version rather than a studio version. Covers can often sound way more emotional and more powerful than the original version, which is why I love covers. And sometimes I think these covers can be better than the original version. Here are 25 notable covers, in no particular order, that I have come across over the years by various artists I love, some are only popular on youtube and others are celebrities.

1. "Closer," cover by Conor Maynard and Alexa Goddard

I've been a fan of both Conor and Alexa for some time now, and this cover is so incredibly emotional. You don't really get this type of emotion from the original since it is more upbeat.

2. "Closer," cover by Walk Off The Earth

I know everyone has been seeing this cover all over facebook, and that is because it is an awesome cover. Walk Off The Earth has always produced awesome covers.

3. "Like I'm Gunna Lose You," cover by Jasmine Thompson

I much prefer this cover to the original. And no, I am not hating on Meghan Trainor or John Legend, but I always thought the lyrics in this song belonged in a slower more powerful delivery.

4. "Cold Water," cover by Conor Maynard and Alex Aiono

Again, I love Conor's covers, and the addition of Alex in this is so good.

5. "Love Me Like You Do," cover by Alex Aiono

I love Ellie Goulding and her version so much, but this is a great acoustic cover by Alex. This is one of his older covers, which I prefer to his newer ones since it's just him with his acoustic guitar.

6. "Don't Let Me Down," cover by Boyce Avenue

If you haven't heard any covers by Boyce Avenue, or better yet, haven't heard of them at all, you're probably living under a rock. Their covers are always amazing.

7. "Photograph," cover by Boyce Avenue and Bea Miller

Yes again, Boyce Avenue are amazing and you'll probably remember Bea Miller from X Factor USA. Bea's voice is beautiful and she is such an amazing singer.

8. "7 Years," cover and rewrite by Leah Guest

I discovered this cover when it was circulating Facebook a while back. I love how she rewrote the lyrics in her cover to portray a girl's perspective. It is so emotional and I may have shed one, ok maybe two tears.

9. "Lay Me Down," cover by Alexa Goddard

I seriously am in love with Alexa's voice in every single on of her covers, and this one is no exception.

10. "Blank Space/Style," mashup cover by Louis Wendorff and Devin Dawson

I know probably everyone has heard this cover. It was shared on facebook for a long time, and that was definitely well deserved. I love this cover so much, I even purchased it on iTunes because of how much I prefer this over the original two songs.

11. "See You Again/Love Me Like You Do/Sugar Mashup," by Megan Davies, Jac Davies, and Tasha

These two sisters and their friend have amazing voices and an amazing ability to harmonize. I would have never imagined these three very different songs being mashed up into one amazing song. This mashup shows how talented these sisters are and how great covers can be.

12. "Closer," cover by Megan Davies and Noah Guthrie

Now I know what you are thinking; Nikki you have put three covers of one song in this article. And no, I haven't. This is a cover of Closer by Nick Jonas ft. Tov lo. And Megan and Noah have amazing voices, so I just had to include this.

13. "I Won't Give Up," cover by Christina Grimmie

Christina Grimmie always created amazing covers and her voice was on of the best out there. She was so powerful and so talented and was taken way too soon. RIP Christina.

14. "Let It Go," cover by Tyler Ward and David Gardner

Now for anyone who knows me, they know my love of James Bay. But they also probably know my love for Tyler Ward and his amazing covers. I have been following him for years on YouTube. And this cover is so so so good.

15. "Somebody Like You," cover by Tyler Ward and Rachel Lampa

This is by far one of my favorite covers by Tyler. This song sounds so good as a duet, and again, I loved this so much that I purchased it on iTunes too.

16. "This Town," cover by Hearts and Colors

Now I know this song just came out, and I also know the original is acoustic and I love that too. But like other artists on this list, I have followed Hearts and Colors for a while. If you haven't noticed yet, I am a sucker for harmonies, and these men harmonize like angels.

17. "Die Young," cover by Paradise Fears

Now, I love Ke$ha, but I also love Paradise Fears. They are one of my favorite bands, and this cover is really great.

18. "As Long As You Love Me," cover by Paradise Fears

Paradise Fears covered the Justin Beiber song, but just wait until the end, you'll hear another that all 90s kids will love.

19. "Thriller," cover by Phillip Phillips

Now we are getting into the few celebrity covers I have added to this list. I absolutely adore Phillip Phillips and all his music. This cover of thriller is amazing and you can really see how talented and what a great guitarist Phillip is.

20. "Give Me Love," cover by Demi Lovato

When I first heard this cover it gave me chills and I listened to it on repeat for a couple of days. There is no denying how talented Demi is.

21. "She Looks So Perfect," cover by Ed Sheeran

Sorry 5 Seconds of Summer, even though I love you guys, I love Ed's cover of this song better.

22. "Skinny Love," cover by Ed Sheeran

Again, you can't deny the talent that Ed has, and this cover proves that. Plus this song, no matter what version( Bon Iver or Birdy) is so beautiful.

23. "The A Team," cover by Birdy

I am a huge fan of Birdy. I just love her voice so much, and this cover shows off her voice so well.

24. "Jolene," cover by Miley Cyrus

Yes I know, everyone has already heard this cover. It has been shared everywhere, and that's because in downright good. No one can say that Miley can't sing after hearing this.

25. "Love Yourself," cover by Halsey

And last but not least, this cover by Halsey is how the song should be sung.

I hope you enjoy all of these covers as much as I do. And who knows, maybe you will fall in love with these YouTube stars and listen to more of their covers and also have a new appreciation for the celebrities on this list as well.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
