Working in an Ice Cream Shop can be a fun summer job, but there are a few things to get used to. These 24 points are things that ice cream shop employees have grown to learn and understand.
1. By the end of the night, you will have dry and sticky ice cream all over your hands and up your arms.
2. There is always one flavor of ice cream that is extremely hard to scoop.
3. Because of this, one of your arms will be stronger than the other.
4. Little kids will insist that they will be able to eat an entire large ice cream cone.
5. There are always those times where a large baseball team fills the dining room and you must try your best to write down all of the orders as fast as possible, as they are being yelled out.
6. You secretly die a little bit inside when a large group does not tip you.
7. There is always one customer that wants to try multiple hard ice cream flavors, but then ends up getting the most basic item on the menu — a small soft served twist cone.
8. Getting phone calls asking if we sell “real food.”
9. When people come into the shop two minutes before closing.
10. You have had multiple milkshakes and cyclones explode on you.
11. It is either constantly busy or very slow.
12. You have had more than one cone fall in the dip.
13. You can say, “Cone or cup? Whip cream? Nuts? Is this to go?” in your sleep.
14. Butterscotch and wet walnut sundaes will be the death of you.
15. Having to wait on customers that take forever to decide what they want.
16. Having to constantly ask customers to repeat their order because you cannot hear over the ice cream machines.
17. Secretly hoping one of your co-workers will offer to sweep and mop the floors at the end of the night because you are too tried to scrub the sprinkles and dried ice cream off the floor.
18. Having to constantly fill the ice cream machines up during a busy night.
19. Accidentally spilling rainbow and chocolate sprinkles all over the floor while trying to cover an ice cream cone.
20. Memorizing the orders of repeat customers…. Banana split with strawberries, rainbow sprinkles and whip cream.
21. Hearing strange orders… A chocolate milkshake with a pump of raspberry flavoring mixed with fruity pebbles frozen yogurt.
22. Having customers change their order AFTER you make it.
23. Getting excited when you are scheduled to work with your friend.
24. The excitement of getting to take home the mistake orders at the end of the night.
Although we might have to deal with the stickiness of the ice cream, we would not trade our job for any other. I mean, who would not want to work in an ice cream shop?!
