23 Signs You Went To Public School

Public schools are one of the few things in the world that are accurately represented on television. Just like in "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," public school often fits into its stereotype of being a charismatic place with an even more charismatic student body that give it it’s unique charm. If you’ve ever experienced public school, you know that there are some things there that you would never see anywhere else. Here are 23.

1. You probably spent more time picking out what to wear in the morning than doing actual homework.

2. Purposely missing the bus so that you wouldn’t have to go to school was a weekly occurrence.

3. Your friend group looked like a college brochure, as you were friends with people of different religions, ethnicities, and sexual orientations.

4. Your longest relationship, yet, has been the love/hate one with Sodexo.

5. Being able to sit in the back of the bus was like getting into the VIP section of a bar.

6. You know at least one couple who got in trouble for hooking up in the school bathroom.

7. The only rule at school dances was girls couldn’t bend over at more than a 90-degree angle.

8. Which is why you and your date were dragged from the dance floor by your history teacher and placed in the “time-out” room at most school dances.

9. You’ve stood on top of the cafeteria tables in order to get a front row view of cat fights.

10. You’ve watched custodians clean up earrings and other remains off the floor as a result of such cat-fights.

11. Each narc was given an offensive nickname by students to identify them.

12. Seeing the police and their drug dogs do “random” locker searches around your school every April 20 was expected.

13. You could’ve made a book out of the tardy passes and detention slips you received for breaking the dress code.

14. You know what nuggeting is, and have either had it done to you, or have done it to someone else’s backpack at least once.

15. You participated in “Mugshot Monday,” where everyone would look to see which one of your classmates got arrested over the weekend.

16. You had a teacher who was so annoyed with teaching your class, one day they just stopped showing up.

17. Your parents were really good friends with the parents of someone you hated, and you were always forced to pretend to like each other in front of them.

18. Your entire senior class got suspended for showing up to school drunk on the first day.

19. Fire drills, pep rallies, and anything else that got you out of going to class was a gift from (religion not allowed in public schools).

20. You did something really silly as your senior prank, but still thought it was awesome.

21. Several students from your graduating class contributed to the teen pregnancy statistic.

22. Unlike your private school friends, you weren’t surprised at the luxury of wearing pajamas to lectures and knew how to dress yourself when you got to college.

23. School was like going on a roller coaster for the first time -- fun, exciting, a little scary, and always makes for a good story after it's over.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
