23 Things You Hear at Lyco

1. Wanna go to Jacks?

Lets be real. Having $150 or $250 to spend at Jacks is heaven. From smoothies to mozzarella sticks, you can't beat jacks, especially when we have that random craving for food at night. Jacks is the perfect place.

2. I know it’s only been 2 weeks, but I’m almost out of Flex

Like I said, Jacks is heaven. But there comes a time when we spend a little too much time there and before you know it you’re down to $30 bucks and we aren’t even a month into school.

3. Why is the caf so cold?

It’s funny how most of us wear shorts and t-shirts all day long, but if you’re going to the caf, it’s like walking into another world. You basically need to dress for winter.

4. Let's order Old School

Old School is probably the best local food place around Lyco. You can’t beat their cheap prices, especially when you’re tired of the same food at school.

5. My class starts 1:00, so I’ll just leave at 12:55

Everyone’s guilty of waking up late, but you can't beat having a small enough campus that you can still make it to class in less than 5 minutes.

6. I CAUGHT THE LYCO PLAGUE!

If you never heard of the Lyco Plague, then you must be new. There comes a time when one person gets sick and then it spreads like wildfire. Before you know it, everyone has the Lyco Plague.

7. I’m going to sleep in the library

The library probably has the best bean bag chairs and sound proof rooms to take the best naps, whether it’s between classes or at night after a long day of homework.

8. My computer is in remediation!

No matter how hard you try to keep your computer updated, it never fails to go into remediation. It feels like a weekly chore to get your computer out of remediation.

9. Where’s the wifi?

But seriously. Where does the wifi go?

10. I can’t wait until Lyco Hoco

Nothing beats the fun we all have during Lyco Hoco week. If you’re new and never got to experience Lyco Hoco, you are in for a treat!

11. Is the art building haunted?

This one kind of pertains to art majors more than anything, but even non-majors that walk by just get that creepy feeling that something's up with the art building. All I can say is, good luck in there at night.

12. There’s an event this weekend, so the caf food will be really good

I know we all don't hate the caf, but let's be real, they make their best meals when they're expecting parents.

13. What movie are they showing on campus this weekend?

When all plans fail, at least you can count on CAB for their weekly movies!

14. I can wear this shirt again. I have different classes tomorrow

If you don't have the same classes everyday then you can get away with re-wearing the same clothes twice, ya know?

15. Why are there so many squirrels?

But seriously.

16. It’s syllabus week

‘Nuff said.

17. My name is…my major is…a fun fact about me is…

All the annoying facts you gotta give to your classes the first week of school.

18. Breakfast at 9 PM

You cant beat a full breakfast the night before finals.

19. Will walking up the steps to third floor of the AC get easier as the year goes on?

No. It will always be hard. You will always be out of breathe no matter many times you try.

20. *fire alarm goes off* Someone burned popcorn again

I probably experienced this a good percentage of my college career.

21. Why aren’t our dorms air conditioned?

BUT WHY.

22. How do you work the window shade?

I’ve lost track of the times I thought I broke the window shade 'cause I just kept pulling and it wouldn’t go up. If someone knows how it works, let me know!

23. I love Lyco!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
