"I'm so bored." "There's nothing to do around here." "I spent all day lying in bed."
These are three of my least favorite phrases. Do you want to know the cure for boredom? It's literally anything. But in case you need some help finding something specific to do, here's a comprehensive list of 23 things that you can over spring break for fun.
1. Sleep
This is the easiest cure for boredom. It's a fact that most college students don't get enough sleep, so catch up on some Zs! Your body will thank you later and you will not be bored.
2. Eat
I love Cobo. Cobo is great (usually). But nothing can beat being home and eating a bunch of delicious food that your mom was kind enough to make. #ThanksMom
3. Hang out with your cat.
This is not exclusive to just cats. You can hang out with your cat, your dog, your tarantula, your avocado, whatever it is. Regardless, your pet missed you and you should provide it with lots of love and affection.
4. Hang out with your mom.
Reread #2. Remember how great your mom is. Take her out to do something fun. Consider mini-golf. Mini-golf is great, just like your mom. Take your mom to play mini golf. Have a blast.
5. Binge watch a show on Netflix.
Honestly, the options are endless. There's something for everyone and every genre. Friends, Pride and Prejudice, Flash - the options are almost overwhelming.
6. Read.
Books are Bae. <3
7. Reread all of my old Odyssey articles.
My personal favorites are "Bald is Beautiful" and "9 Signs that You've Found Prince Charming."
8. Harass your siblings.
And just in case you need some inspiration...
9. Egg your old high school.
Or not. This is just a list of fun suggestions for if you don't know what to do. And if your mom says, "These eggs are going to go bad if we don't use them soon," it would be rude not to help her out...
10. Bake cookies.
A safe alternative for if your mom says, "These eggs are going to go bad if we don't use them soon."
11. Write a letter.
Note: Getting mail is awesome. I love getting mail. Don't you? Why don't you brighten one of your friend's days and send them a heartfelt letter? The art of letter writing is quickly becoming forgotten. Let's bring it back!
12. Paint a picture.
Or do some craft from Pinterest. Or take some pictures. Whatever you do, just get creative!
13. Do your homework for once.
GASP. Homework? But this is a break! Why would I act like a responsible student with all of this free time that I have?
14. Get your squad back together.
It's been awhile since you've seen your high school friends. They've missed you, you've missed them. They'll want to hear all the deats (details) about college.
15. Go outside.
I know, it's scary. There's no place to charge your phone if it dies.
16. Take up a new hobby.
Scrapbooking, knitting, jump roping, skiing, playing ping pong, writing haikus, making paper-mache (or as the French like to call it, papier-mâché).
17. Learn another language.
Oh ma vache! Apprennez le francais! Le francais est un langue magnifique! Mais, vous pouvez apprendre les langue de l'allemand ou l'italien ou la mandarin.
18. Become a superhero.
Things needed to become a superhero: crime-infested area, cool costume, great Superhero name, love interest, and a dark past. (Powers not included).
19. Make a claymation movie.
I Clay-m this movie. (Get it? Clay-m? Claim? Hahaha another great activity is to become better at making puns).
20. Plant a garden.
Get a little pot, fill it with a little soil, get some little seeds. Voila! Just don't forget to bring it with you to college. The plant needs you for survival.
21. Watch that movie people having been telling you to watch for years that you have never "had the time" to watch.
Now when people ask, "Oh, have you ever seen This Great Movie that Everyone Talks About All the Time" you can respond, "Why yes, I have." Doesn't that sound fun?
22. Skype your grandma.
Your grandma loves to hear your voice and see your face. Granted, you might not see her face because she doesn't know how to use Skype, but that's okay. Who knows, maybe she'll offer to send you cookies in the mail?
23. Volunteer for a charity.
Instead of complaining about how bored you are, you could help out people with actual needs? I don't know, it's just an idea.
I swear, if I hear one of y'all comes back from break saying, "I was so bored the whole time," I will print this article out and mail it to you along with a passive aggressive letter.
