23 Struggles You Face Heading Into Your Senior Year Of College

Wow, I'm old.

If you asked me three years ago if I'd fall in love with my school and the people in Ann Arbor, I'd laugh in disbelief and probably think you're insane for even asking. Now, I'm quickly approaching my last year at easily the best university in the world, and I'm all types of emotional about it. Here are 23 struggles that I have already encountered heading into my senior year. Maybe you've encountered some, too.

1. Deciding if you should go to graduate school.

2. Wanting to attend grad school just to avoid growing up.

3. Needing to study for (and complain about) the GRE/MCAT/LSAT etc.

4. Needing to take the GRE/MCAT/LSAT during welcome week because your indecisiveness resulted in late registration and that's all that was left.

5. Then realizing that grad school applications also require recommendations.

6. Except you basically disliked all but one of your professors...

7. Therefore needing to force connections/build new relationships ASAP so that you can ask literally anyone to complete that app requirement.

8. Wondering if it's socially acceptable to cry because there's only one football/tailgate season left as an undergrad.

9. Panicking about needing to hit every new restaurant/bar/hang-out on campus in two semesters.

10. Panicking about needing to re-visit all of your favorite restaurants/bars/hang-outs in TWO SEMESTERS.

11. Realizing you didn't do even half as much as you wanted to the last three years.

12. Begging time to slow down.

13. Debating flunking a class just so you can stay at least one semester longer.

14. Being in denial about the fact that the job search is just around the corner.

15. Questioning if you really need a job, place to live or food to eat.

16. Desperately begging for at least one decent TA/GSI before you graduate.

17. Contemplating the social implications of hitting up the frats you missed during your freshman and sophomore year.

18. Realizing you and your friends won't be within walking distance anymore.

19. Wondering how you'll survive without them.

20. Calculating the least amount of effort you need to put in during your last two semesters in order to slide by...

21. But then remembering you decided to go to grad school, so you actually need to try. *Sob*

22. "Jokingly" asking your parents if you can live at home post-grad (just in case things go south)...

23. But high key meaning it because your biggest life struggle is no longer deciding between chicken nuggets or mac and cheese for lunch.

To all my seniors, make the most of your final year. Take advantage of all of the things your school and campus have to offer because before you know it, it'll all be over. (Unless, you know, you're like me and are going to grad school to avoid the real world.)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
