22 Things You Are Tired Of Hearing As A Tall Person
kidfromthe6ix

As a 5' 11-1/2" (with shoes on) 19-year-old, I get a lot of comments on my height. So many, in fact, that I was able to create this list in less than five minutes. Isn't funny how when you are a certain height, there are many things that you hear and specific comments that you get, over, and over, and over again? Actually, no, it isn't funny. It's actually quite annoying. It's okay though—we tall folk forgive you; not as tall folk—we know that you don't know you're not being original. Or, for some reason, you think even if it's a "classic" tall joke, it's still funny. Well, it's not. But thanks for trying. Now, now, don't get me wrong; I love being tall, and I love when people notice my height...but I'd rather be simply complimented instead of having to listen to some overused and dull joke or comment. So without further ado, here is a list of 22 things you definitely hear as a tall person.

(All of these usually start off with, "WOW, you're really tall!" and then continue with one or more of the following.)

  1. Do you play basketball? (When I reply, "No, volleyball," the response is usually, "Ohhhh, the other 'tall sport.'")
  2. Are you a model?
  3. Have you ever thought of modeling?
  4. Can you grab that for me?
  5. Your legs are longer than my whole body!
  6. How's the weather up there? (This one is not funny at all! What is humorous about this?)
  7. Lemme try to give you a high five—I bet I can reach.
  8. Your feet must be huge!
  9. What size are those things? (Yes, because tall people's feet are called "things," not "feet.".)
  10. What, did your parents stretch you when you were little?
  11. Is it hard to find tall guys to date?
  12. Wow, you must be huge when wearing heels.
  13. Do clothes even like, fit you?
  14. You're such a giraffe.
  15. Can you like bend down? I can't hear you. (No.)
  16. You must be over six feet.
  17. No? I swear you must be. We should measure you. (No.)
  18. Are your parents really tall?
  19. I really look up to you. Ha ha. Get it? (Yes, it's not funny.)
  20. I wish I were as tall as you. (Thanks? Yeah? What is the correct response? Please help.)
  21. Are you sure you haven't grown since the last time I've seen you?
  22. I feel so short next to you.

Oh yes, being tall is wonderful and comes with amazing things, but it is a package deal. Ya gotta deal with the repetitive comments and what not, but at least you've got a routine and automatic reply down pat, am I right?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
