22 Things I Learned At 22

A year has gone and I have learned a lot. Here is a list of 22 things that I learned while I was 22 years old.

I will be 23 years old on February 5th, and over the last year, I went through moments of success and defeat. So, as I close my year of being 22, I made a list of 22 things that I learned this year. Some of you might relate, and I hope others can use this list as guidance.

1. Self-care comes in many forms.

2. Friends will come and they will go.

3. If you think there is something wrong with your car, go get it checked it before it becomes a bigger problem.

Especially if you think the brakes are going (which is what happened to me). Just go to your mechanic.

4. Saying no is okay.

5. Sugarland (the country duo group) is great live. Like amazing. Go see them.

6. Roller coasters aren’t that bad.

I'm still not the biggest fan, but I survived.

7. Creating an Instagram account for something you love is really fun.

8. Doing nothing during Spring Break or Winter Break is okay.

9. Buying something just because it is on sale isn’t always the best idea. You probably don’t need it.

Also, it might not be a great deal just because it is advertised as one.

10. Spending time with your family is really cool.

11. People are going to be mean for no reason, so do not let that affect you.

12. I will never be a good speller, even though I am an English major.

13. Twitter is the best and the worst social media platform.

It's too political at times, but other times you see an old vine that you've forgotten about, and that's great.

14. Going to the gym isn’t awful, and it is something you should keep doing.

15. You do not always have to prepare for worst case scenario.

16. Stop worrying about your money; it’ll eventually come back to you.

17. I will always be late when meeting up with friends.

"We're going to Applebee's at 9? Great, I'll see you at 9:30." - Me

18. People are going to move away and it will be sad, but thankfully, social media exists, so you'll stay in touch.

19. Even though the world seems to be such an unkind place right now, there are so many nice people out there.

20. It’s been four years since the cast album has been released, but the music to "Hamilton: An American Musical" is still my favorite thing to listen to.

I listen to it "Non-stop" (it's one of the songs).

21. Do not trust yourself when you say, “I’ll remember that.” Just write it down.

22. It is okay to speak up.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
