22 Signs You're From The 210
Anitza Martins

When people think of cities in Texas, they always mention Dallas and Austin, and while these cities are wonderful, San Antonio will forever be my favorite. It's always funny to hear peoples responses when I say I’m from San Antonio because all they know about it is that that's where the Alamo is. I didn't always love San Antonio. I thought it was boring, ugly, and just filled with highways, but now that I only get to travel to the 210 about once a year, I have come to appreciate it so much more.

Here are a list of things that all San Antonians know to be true.

1. Breakfast tacos are a lifestyle.

2. If you pronounce it "San Antone" we know you aren't from here.

3. You wear cowboy boots to formal events.

4. The Spurs are the best team on the planet. VA SPURS VA!

5. Fiesta, Battle of Flowers, and NIOSA are their own holidays.

6. Having photo shoots in fields of bluebonnets is a normal occurrence. PSA: it is illegal to pick bluebonnets.

7. Everything really is bigger, including the HUGE boots outside North Star Mall.

8. We love and know how pretty the River Walk is, but it's even prettier around Christmas time.

9. Cedar is basically the plague.

10. You know that the "x" in Bexar is silent and that it is pronounced “Bear."

11. Shipley’s and Kolaches are everything.

12. HEB is and will always be the best grocery store. If it were to ever close down, everyone would cease to function.

13. You refer to different parts of the city as “Helotes,” "Stone Oak," “Heights,”.....

14. Cascarones are encouraged year around.

15. You’re never very far from a mariachi band.

16. Tim Duncan is a hero.

17. Chips and Salsa are their own major food group.

18. We love Selena.

19. Being inside or outside the loop has absolutely nothing to do with gossip.

20. Patience is key when it comes to traffic on I10,1604, 410 and 281.

21.Tamales, Tamales, Tamales.

22. Even though we’ve been to the Alamo about a billion times, we are still so proud of it.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
