Up until now, I’ve realized that life can go great for a while and then everything can seem to fall apart, but soon enough, things start to fall into place again. There are so many lessons that life teaches us, and we keep learning things throughout the way. Although there are so many more things I definitely need to learn, here are 21 things I have learned so far.
1) Your Parents Are Your Biggest Supporters
While it may seem hard to believe at times, your parents have your best interests in mind. Growing up, things may be “unfair”, but as you grow older, you start to turn to your parents more because they are the ones who will always tell you the truth, no matter how hard it is to hear. Your parents are the first ones who know when something is wrong and can give solid advice because any problem we’ve had, they probably have had similar ones while they were growing up.
2) Your Siblings And Cousins Are Your Best Friends
Even though you may fight at times, they will do anything for you and will always give you a hand when you need it.
3) Blood Is Thicker Than Water
There are so many people who will come and go, but family is always there.
4) Tough Times Reveal True Friends
It’s easy to be around someone when they’ve got it all, but when life gets tough and you need a shoulder to cry on, see who sticks around at your absolute lowest, those are the ones you should never let go.
5) Quality Over Quantity; Always
It’s better to have one real friend who will be there regardless of what has happened, than a million fake friends who disappear the moment something goes wrong.
6) Put Yourself First
It's not being selfish, it's taking care of yourself. Always do what is right for you, regardless of what other people think.
7) Treat Others The Way You Want To Be Treated
As cliché as it sounds, this is the first thing we learn from our parents. You never know what someone’s path is like, so being kind can always brighten up someone’s day.
8) You Can’t Please Everyone
Regardless of what you do, someone is always going to have an issue with it. So instead of changing around your lifestyle for someone else, do what makes you happy, because it’s your life to live, not theirs.
9) Stand Up For What You Believe In
Even if you’re standing alone, you know what is right and best for you.
10) Don’t Get Too Attached To Anyone
It’s okay to be vulnerable at times, but never be dependent on someone. Only you can take care of yourself, because “even your shadow leaves you in the dark”.
11) It’s Okay To Be Different
There is nothing wrong with going against the crowd and doing something you are truly passionate about.
12) Be Careful Who You Trust
Only a few people care, the rest are just curious.
13) Remember Who You Are
Don’t give up your morals or values for anyone.
14) Live In The Present
The past is gone and the future hasn’t arrived yet. Make every moment last.
15) Don’t Stress The Little Things
The rule is, if it doesn’t matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 seconds stressing over it.
16) Everything Happens For A Reason
In a perfect world, we would have what we wanted by now, but instead we come to realize that things happen for a reason and there’s a lesson to be learned from it.
17) It’s OK To Make Mistakes
We’re only human and nobody is perfect. We learn a lot from our mistakes.
18) Don’t Compare Yourself To Anyone
Everyone’s path is different. While it may seem like the grass is greener on the other side, you never know what the other person is truly going through.
19) Don’t Worry About What Other People Think Of You
Just focus on yourself, life is too short to worry about other’s opinions of you. It doesn’t matter.
20) Let Go Of Grudges
It’s only stopping your happiness.
21) Focus On Yourself
Being in your 20’s, it is the time to be selfish. It’s time to make your dreams and goals come alive.
