The music at a social gathering can make or break the event. Everyone has those songs they just love to dance to and I’m here to compile them into a music list you can’t resist! So here are the 21 songs you hope you here at every college party.
1. "Get Low" - Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz
“To the windowwwww to wall”. Who can resist the deep resonance of Lil John’s voice? I know I can’t.
2. "Baby Got Back" - Sir-Mix-A-Lot (And its successor Anaconda by Nicki Minaj)
My feminist principles go out the door when this sick jam comes on. In theory, the things “Sir-Mix-A-Lot” has to say about women and their appearance is extremely offensive, but how can you not dance to this song?
3. "Drop it Like It’s Hot" - Snoop Dog
“Snoooooooooooop”; This is the absolute perfect opportunity to show off that leg work you’ve been doing in the gym by dropping it low!
4. "Yeah" - Usher feat. Lil John & Ludacris
What’s better than a song that says the same word 70 times? A song that says the word 75 times (yes, I counted and I hate myself for it). This party essential was released in 2004, so when most of us were about 9. This was the song we heard played in our older sister’s bedroom and in our older brother’s car. High schoolers listened to it for basketball warmups and the pop radio stations played it. This song is the definition of what cool was when we were in middle school, and clearly, it stuck.
5. "Ignition" - R Kelly
“It’s the freaking weekend baby I’m about to have me some fun”. Enough said.
6. "I Gotta Feeling" - Black Eyed Peas
If you didn’t have a feeling that tonight was going to be a good night before this song came on, you absolutely do now.
7. "Party in the USA" - Miley Cyrus
American Pride at its finest. Thank you, Miley.
8. "Shots" - LMFAO
Whether or not you chose to consume alcohol, you have to admit that this song is pretty great
9. "Turn Down for What" - DJ Snake & Lil Jon
This song was accompanied by a sort of battle cry for our generation, so it’s no wonder we college kids go insane when we year its crazy EDM (that’s electric dance music for all you non-millennials) beats!
10. "Holla Back Girl" - Gwen Stefani
How else would we know how to spell banana if it weren’t for this song? Side note: what is a “Hollaback girl”? Whatever it is, we know Gwen is not one and we should also strive to not be one as well. Girl power.
11. "Candy Shop" - 50 Cent
This one might win the award for being the most passively sexual song ever created. Regardless, it has changed the way we all look at candy stores and provided yet another synonym for sexual activity. Plus, it’s just fun to dance to!
12. "It's Gettin’ Hot in Here" -Nelly
Chances are that the temperature truly is extremely hot where you are. Also, it’s pretty fun to rid of the sexual tension between you and the people that you’re dancing nearby incorporating the motions of undressing into your dance moves.
13. "Wasn’t Me" - Shaggy
“Hum didda hum didda hum didda holla”. Does anyone really know what Shaggy is saying during like…his entire singing part? No? Good, me neither. This is totally a song about cheating, by the way, but whatever, it’s fun.
14. "Tipsy" - J.Kwown
This song made it cool to take out the “R” in everybody. “Erbody in the club getting tipsy”.
15. "Talk Dirty To Me" - Jason Derulo
Another super sexual song, are you surprised? Also, whatever type of horns are playing during the chorus of this song are just too fun.
16. "Wobble" - V.I.C.
Apparently, there is an actual dance for this song? Just follow everyone else and you’ll be fine.
17. "Cyclone" - Baby Bash
A throwback to 7th-grade dances, am I right?
18. "Hips Don’t Lie" - Shakira
This party needed some Latin Flair. And if my hips are saying that they are tired and I’m covered in sweat (only 60% of which is mine), that it is very true…My hips do not lie.
19. "Bottoms Up" - Trey Songz
This song started a wave of overly confident young men calling themselves “Mr.StealYoGirl”. Thanks, Trey Songz. This song is also a fun way to show your friends just how much you listen to crappy music by rapping the entire Nicki Minaj feature.
20. "Single Ladies " - Beyonce
Single or Taken, Male or Female, everybody’s hand goes up when Beyonce commands. This song taught us that if you like a thing, you should definitely put a ring on it.
21. "Hey Ya" - Outkast
Any song that has appointed parts for girls and boys to sing at is a song that I want to listen to. When Outkast says “Alright now ladies”, you know I’m about to shake it like a Polaroid picture.
