- 1. You remember every single sleepover you have ever had because you’ve been to maybe four.

3. You remember the first time you went to the mall without parental supervision because it was a revolutionary day for you.
4. You had to ask your friends if their parents were home because you weren’t allowed to go anywhere without parental supervision.
5. You had to base asking your parents for permission around their mood.
6. You still have to check in with your parents throughout the day...and you are damned if you don’t.
7. All of your clothes still abide by your middle school dress code.
8. Fear was instilled in you from a young age. You were reminded you could possibly die from anything ranging from rollercoasters to going to the beach.
9. You are amazing at pretending to be asleep since your parents would check on you at night to see if you followed your bedtime.
10. You needed to write down a thorough itinerary for every single event you wanted to go to in order to get permission for it.
11. And you have felt dire panic surging through your veins when your friend reschedules the plans you told your parents about.
12. You never had “The Talk” with your parents.
13. When your friend first got her license, you weren’t allowed to be in a car with her.
14. Your roommates think you are a naturally a neat freak, but the truth is you still fear that somehow your parents know your room is messy.
15. If you wanted permission to go somewhere, you needed to ask at least 72 hours before the event.
16. So if your friends asked you if you wanted to hang out later, you knew the answer was automatically “no.”
17. Turning 18 meant absolutely nothing in terms of earning more freedom.
18. You only recently started cursing.
19. You have contemplated telling your parents a funny story about your day because you were never sure if they would laugh at it or get angry with you.
20. Your parents still periodically check your social media accounts.
21. You recognize that your parents love you and want nothing but for you to safe and happy, and you love them too.
