21 Reasons Why I Can't Wait To Turn 21

As a soon to be college senior, it feels like everyone has already turned 21...except for me. As I have celebrated all my friends and their friends turn the ripe age of 21 and popped bottles of champagne to their now legal status, I've counted down the days until I can do the same. I have about two weeks until this glorious day finally arrives, and I simply cannot wait any longer. Here are 21 reasons why I can't wait to turn 21:

1. Finally legal!

No more sneaking behind my mom's back and stealing from her liquor cabinet. Now I can walk right into the liquor store and buy my own wine coolers, gosh darn it.

2. No more MIPs.

The acronym M.I.P. may be one of the scariest acronym to minors.

3. The Bar Scene

You mean...no more X's on my hands that take days to come off? Like seriously, Mr. Bouncer, can't we just use the Crayola markers that wash off in seconds rather than a Sharpie that brands me for 3 days as a minor.

4. Goodbye Fake IDs

I never had one...but if I did, I'd be glad to no longer be Sally from Connecticut.

5. Hello Clubbin'

Um, yes please. Flashy lights, stiletto heels, caked on make up and expensive booze. Sign me up.

6. No more fear while Tailgating

The walk from the frats to the stadium is no longer a walk that involves me concentrating harder than I do on a midterm exam just to walk "sober".

7. Happy Hour

Once 5 o'clock hits, I can finally enjoy a cute little drink with a cute little olive with co workers rather than sticking to a boring ice water with a not so cute lemon.

8. Bar Crawls

Don't even get me started on those bar crawl shirts. As for me, I've already started brainstorming the shirt design my friends and I will be rocking come fall.

9. Justin Bieber is 22, I'll be 21...

It just makes sense.

10. Once again, no more MIPs.

This needs to be repeated because it's just that important.

11. Music Festivals

Being 21 will be the icing on the cake as I can enjoy my cold beer while also enjoying the #goodvibes that only music festivals can create.

12. The coveted Instagram Post

You know the one that I'm talking about.

13. Beach Parties

No more worrying about cops in sun glasses wearing above the knee shorts trying to ruin my fun in the sun.

14. One more year until I'm feeling 22

Get excited Tswift! 365 days until I can jam out to your hit single.

15. Las Vegas

It's safe to say Sin City won't be ready for this legal adult.

16. Getting carded

Check out my ID, look at me five times over, scan it and quiz me on my address. I dare you.

17. Wine nights

No more relying on boxed wine, now I can actually browse the wine isle and pick out any red I want.

18. Twenty fun

Need I say more?

19. No more being left behind

Now we all can go out and hit the town! Thanks, Uber! You are now our official designated driver! You da real MVP.

20. Buying alcohol

I am a grown, independent, 21-year-old, and I can buy my Burnettes whenever I want! What a time to be alive.

21. I made it!

Cheers! I'm 21 and ready to party.

P.S. Turning 21 is way too much fun, but always remember to be safe and drink responsibly while also having the time of your life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
