21 Reasons I Grew Up to Become Squidward

For most people my age, "Spongebob Squarepants" was a big part of their lives. My friends and I used to quote the show back and forth. We still do. But during all that time we spent watching the show, we just laughed at all of Squidward’s antics and his personality. Looking back, my transformation into Squidward began a long time ago. We always thought that Squidward was a cranky grown-up that didn’t like fun. We were very wrong. He’s more realistic than most of the other characters. He is passionate about things that are a little more grown up than jelly-fishing and flipping burgers and doesn’t spend his entire life thinking about money. But his personality also has some other traits that definitely reflect my lifestyle. Occasionally, I will watch an episode or two, the old ones of course, and I realize that I am Squidward. In fact. most of us are Squidward. These are the reasons why we are all becoming Squidward.

1. We are easily annoyed

2. We don't want to deal with the real world

3. We constantly have the "anti-morning feels"

4. Regretting life choices halfway through the day

5. Over-dramatic

6. We put reality aside and dream big

7. Single life forever

8. Cheery outlook for the day

9. My life is very important

10. Intense cravings

11. When I finish a paper

12. My dancing skills

13. Love of music

14. Being just a little...OK, really competitive.

15. Feeling under-appreciated once in a while

16. Would rather be reading than dealing with people

17. Or sleeping

18. Don’t like to be disturbed during “me" time

19. Caring about stuff can be very challenging

20. Don’t like a routine I didn’t create

21. At the end of an event I was dreading the all along

I never thought I would act like Squidward, but here we are. I am now Squidward. To all of those Spongebobs out there, please don't move in next to me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
