If you're like me, you probably have a hard time thinking of topics to write about for your weekly Odyssey articles. After all, when you write week after week, particularly over the summer when there isn't much happening, it's hard to find something new to say. How does one strike the balance between relatable yet not cliche, fresh but not overkill? If you're like me -- that is, prone to falling into the trap of writing your Odyssey articles at weird, mish-mosh hours when the only thing on your mind is either caffeine or sleep (occasionally, you might also think about puppies, but that's another story -- then you know that sometimes, topics for Odyssey articles come to you naturally, while at other times, staring at the blank page can be as exciting as watching paint dry. To help alleviate some of that burden, here are 21 potential Odyssey topics for you (and, realistically, me) to write about in the future:
1. Write about what you might do if you were president of the United States.
2. Perform a study on how many licks it actually takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop and then provide the results to the world vis-a-vis Odyssey Online.
3. Complete the 100-layer challenge but for clothing and not makeup. Take pictures and upload them.
4) Make as many goat puns as humanly baa-ssible (and then subsequently cringe when you look back on the post).
5. Reflect on what it's like to be a junior (ew) in college in the 21st century.
6. Write about some current event! (#unique).
7. Examine gender, race, etc. in Disney movies and what that says about our society.
8. Text a bunch of random numbers weird things and see what they respond and then use their responses to craft an article.
9. Go undercover and do serious detective work; subsequently report back on it.
10. Interview some of my college's professors about what they think about some pertinent topic.
11. Interview some of my peers about what they think about some pertinent topic.
12. Share my own views about what I think about some pertinent topic.
13. Try to type as many words as possible in one minute (even if they don't make a coherent thought), see how many you can get, and coin it as an article.
14. Call out musicians who fail to properly use the subjunctive in their songs.
15. In fact, if I were to write an article about number 14, I would also describe why the subjunctive is so important.
16. Think of all the TV shows you wish you would've watched this summer and make a list.
17. Also make a list of all the things you wish you'd done this summer that weren't watching TV.
18. Constructively critique some aspect of popular culture, news, etc.
19. Discuss the function of language in our culture and ponder how words came about.
20. Present some internal debate about something totally not important just for the sake of filling space.
21. Make a list about potential Odyssey article topics.
