I'm 21, Engaged And Still Completely Independent

Yes, I said it.

Now before you get angry from reading this headline, let's clear up some facts. I turned 21 years old this year, got engaged to my wonderful fiance and yes I am completely independent.

I have been in this relationship for two and a half years at this point and nothing has changed my mindset of being independent. Since the day we started dating I had a job, and within the past year I have held up two jobs, yes at the same time.

Not only do I have two jobs but I also go to school full time. You're probably thinking that I am crazy at this point right?

Let me break it down for you all.

When my fiance and I first started dating he said to me "Do not ever listen to anybody who says you do not need a job."

This is something that has stuck in my head because ever since we got into a relationship I had a lot of different people telling me that I no longer needed a job because I have a male to support me. I shut that down real quick, just because I am in a relationship does not mean that I need to change my mindset.

When we were driving around one day the song "Miss Independent" by Ne-Yo started to play and he looked at me and said, "This is my song for you." He said that because he knows that no matter what happens in my life, I will never ask for help.

Very rarely do I ever ask for help when it comes to something that I know I can do by myself.

The reason why I am saying all of this is because I absolutely hate when I see females posting on social media saying that they need a guy to support them or they need a guy to buy them this or that. I am the type of person that I will work for everything I need or want in my life.

Do not let a guy stop you from reaching your full potential. Be independent and be yourself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
