In 2017, I Will Do Stuff

In 2017 I want to…

Push my body to its limits, and continue to get stronger.

I hope that I can say, without a doubt, every day I did something good for my body. I of course want to get to the gym as much as possible, go run or doing something a bit more strenuous, but I want to find new things that help me smile and keep me healthy. I love rowing, and thanks to the UNH team, I’ve started listing some of those things already.

Buy the plane ticket, and go.

In my sophomore year of high school when I travelled to Germany, I was infected with the “travel bug.” Now that I’m 18 and starting out my little adult life, I really want to make the effort and just start those adventures as soon as possible. Right now, Iceland is in the works…

Take more pictures and not worry about the ‘Gram.

I love taking pictures, especially posting them on Instagram. But, I want you use my beautiful Canon camera way more than my iPhone’s camera. I put the work and money into the Canon and I want to take advantage of all the memories I know I’ll make this year.

Do something a lil’ crazy.

Despite the trip abroad I want to make happen, I’ve been wanting a tattoo for a while or to get second ear piercings… Hmmm we’ll see…. I’m also excited to take ballet next semester! Totally outside my comfort level :)

Put my money towards school, gas, travel, memories, and things for others.

I love to shop. Love it. Amazon Prime free two-day shipping and my VIP Membership to Fabletics is really hard to resist. Yet, I’m starting to realize other things I’d rather spend money on like experiences, birthday and christmas gifts for others, food…

Throw myself into my schoolwork and open up some job and internship opportunities.

My first semester of college was challenging in more aspect than one, and to be honest my grades took a bit of a hit. But, with the spring semester coming up now that I have a better understanding of who I am and the campus I’m at, I’m sure my school work will improve.

I have a small book collection of memoirs, adventures, and humorous life stories that I’d love to actually read. (I struggle to do so because it makes me sleepy).

Continue growing my music taste and Netflix addictions.

Spotify is great. Netflix is great.

Write more.

Thank goodness I have this platform on the Odyssey, but I want to expand my portfolio and see what more I can do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
