2016, We Need To Talk

We have some ground to cover before you arrive.

Our beloved 2015 is coming to an and, and I'd say most of us are more than ready for a fresh start. In the spirit of the New Year, I've come up with a bucket list to complete before January 1, 2016, a few things to leave behind in 2015 and a list of (realistic) goals for the 365 following days.

So, 2016, let's cover a few things before you get here.

I have some things to do before your arrival; things like:

1. Tie up some loose ends with people I fell out of touch with.

2. Give up something harmful.

3. Forgive someone who hurt me.

4. Thank the good Lord up above for all of the good (and bad) things that happened this year.

5. Revisit any mistakes I made so I can learn from them.

Also, I have some things to leave behind in 2015.

1. Negativity.

2. The habit of feeling completely helpless anytime something goes wrong.

3. The things that I hate, but keep around for some reason.

4. Being dishonest with myself and the people around me.

5. The past/guilt.

But once you do arrive, I have some goals to set, because "new year, new me" and all.

1. Stop letting every little thing get to me.

2. Do something that will lead to a healthier lifestyle.

3. End relationships that aren't helping me become the best version of myself.

4. Build stronger relationships with the people who have been there for me through thick and thin.

5. Do less for myself and more for those around me.

6. Make a game plan for how to be productive and efficient throughout the year.

7. Plan a getaway so there's a little something extra to look forward to.

8. Love harder and love without restraints.

9. Find a new talent or introduce a new hobby into my life.

10. Let Jesus actually take the wheel.

So, 2016, please be good to us all. Don't get me wrong; 2015 was pretty great, with its man bun fad, the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge (and her Lip Kit), the offensive political debates, the Confederate Flag ordeal, the dress (that broke the internet), and the 1989 World Tour and all. However, 2015 also brought along some pretty crazy obstacles, some pretty bad mistakes, and some pretty annoying moments.

You'll probably have even more crazy obstacles, bad mistakes, and annoying moments, but hey, that's life. You may just be a continuation of time, but in a way, you're a fresh start. I vow to begin our time together with an open mind and a cleared up conscience, so here's hoping you turn out to be a great year!

I'm excited to learn what all of your social media fads will be, what new artists you'll introduce, what ridiculous clothing trends you'll create (or resurface from the past), and even what mind-blowing technology you'll reveal.

2016, bring it on.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
