If you have been following the Republican party during 2016's presidential election, then you are fully aware of the crazy that has been happening. Our party has now dwindled down to these three candidates, whether we like it or not.
1. Donald Trump
Until June 16th, no one really cared about the 2016 election. That day marks when the circus came to the 2016 Presidential Election. In a raspy, shouting voice, Donald Trump announced, “I AM OFFICIALLY RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.” Since that day, the Donald has been talked about on every TV show, every newspaper and every family occasion where your uncle has a "Make America Great Again Hat" on. From comments about building a wall, to putting a temporary ban on all Muslims entering the country, Trump has been getting more attention than all the other candidates combined. Currently, the Republican front-runner, with 744 delegates, only needs 493 of the 852 remaining delegates. Posing the question can he do it with two other people in the race.
2. Senator Ted Cruz
Born in Canada, yet because of his parents were both citizens at the time, he is automatically considered a citizen. It’s true that the Republican party hates Donald Trump, however, they also hate Ted Cruz. Just not as much. Lindsey Graham, a senator from South Carolina, a true GOP man, has the famous line, “This election you have two options, get shot or poisoned” describing Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. Ted Cruz has nearly the exact same position as Donald Trump on many topics, besides each of their tax plans and how to deal with the illegal immigrants currently in our country. Cruz at this point is banking on the Republican Convention to go in his favor. Currently sitting at only 545 delegates, he would need 692 delegates in order to win outright.
3. Governor John Katich
Yes, he still is running for those of you who did not know. He is currently the only one the Republican candidates who we would actually like to see in office. Sadly, he has absolutely no chance of getting into office unless we go to a contested convention, where then the Republicans would have to change the rules in order for him to win. According to the rules of 2012, in order to be considered at the convention, you must win eight states. He has only won one. Making his campaign pretty much useless.
So how did this happen, America? You ask why are we stuck with these guys? This is your fault! Yes, you! There were 17 great candidates this year and you picked the two the Republican party hate most. Regardless of who you vote for this next election, both are good guys with new ideas trying to break up the big government to stabilize our debt and balance the budget. Would I like to join the Bernie Train and get free college? Yes. However, it is only free until our taxes and debt continue to rise, forcing more jobs to leave the US and giving myself more debt to pay off when I’m elected in 2048. America was built on blood, sweat and tears and this election you have the option to continue that tradition.
