2016: the Good, the Bad, and the Funny

Looking back at the past 365 days there have been a lot of ups and downs. Things have come and gone going viral through the Internet, emotions have been shared through out the world, and Pokémon catching has become more of a reality than a dream. So here a glance back at the past before we leave it behind for the New Year.

The Good:

We finally got “Finding Dory” after waiting 13 years.

The Olympics took Rio by storm.

The cubs broke their World Series “curse”.

Animals are being helped like the pandas, elephants, tigers, and whales.

Child mortality has gone down.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jackie Chan finally got his Oscar.

The earth was helped by planting trees, fixing the ozone layer, and solar panels.

We found out the “Harry Potter” world is still growing with books and movies.

Ellen was awarded the Medal of Freedom, which she deserved.

New amazing technology has come put like glasses that allow the color blind to see

The Bad:

The political election in total.

The many devastating attacks around the world.

We lost many loved idols.

49 people killed at Pulse in Florida, the worst mass shooting in American history.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt split after 11 years.

Hamarabe, RIP, enough said.

Wildfires, hurricanes, and earthquakes killed many.

Pokémon Go helped us look more like zombies.

Creepy clowns overtook the United states first but spread around the world for no reason.

The “Powerpuff Girls” reboot sucked.

The Funny:

The woman with the Chewbacca mask with the contagious laugh.

Biden and Obama memes as their presidential term comes to an end.

Evil Kermit memes that we all could relate too.

Carpool Karaoke with James Corden made us all laugh.

Ryan Reynolds made us laugh with his tweets and hilarious movie “Deadpool”.

Bone Apple Tea, and other ways we made fun of this line.

Challenges like the running man, the mannequin, and the bottle flipping.

Michael Phelp’s face at the Olympics as he looked at his opponent and the memes that followed.

“Me at the beginning of 2016 vs end of 2016”

Just memes in general that took over the entire internet.

Heres to 2017!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
