If you didn't secretly watch "Degrassi" without telling your parents because it wasn't "appropriate" did you even live? "Degrassi" was the greatest thing to ever grace our television screens— long live "The N." If you're like me, you only consider the first few years as the *real* "Degrassi," not this new Netflix crap— or hell, even the later years when all of our favorites were gone.
This was the first show to rip my heart out and leave me in tears. Here are the 20 most heart-wrenching moments in "Degrassi" that left our minds completely blown:
1. Whenever Emma and Sean broke up...
The greatest "Degrassi" couple, hands down. I'm still pissed they didn't even end up together. Is love even real? I wonder.
2. When Craig's dad died...
He abused him so terribly, however, when he died a little piece of Craig died. This just sent him in a downward spiral and it was heartbreaking to watch.
3. When Craig comes to terms with his bi-polar disorder...
Like I said, downward spiral for poor Craig. Ugh, you can't help but love him even when he was being a total f*ckboy with Ashley and Manny.
4. When Ellie was cutting herself...
The definition of teenage angst in the 2000s. This girl had it rough.
5. When Jimmy and Spinner's friendship ended...
I mean, it was for good reason, but still.
6. When Marco comes out...
Spinner couldn't accept him, his family at first couldn't accept him— Imagine how rough must have been?
7. When Marco was attacked for being gay...
Jimmy came to his rescue, what a gem.
8. Hell, even when Spinner wouldn't accept Marco...
Marco is so sweet, ugh. This poor boy has been through hell.
9. When Emma tried to have a relationship with her mentally ill biological father...
Emma always saw the good in people even though her mom didn't want her to have anything to do with her father. She tried anyway and it just didn't end well at all. So, so sad.
10. When Paige was raped...
She was made to be the person at fault because she "asked for it." Huge kudos to "Degrassi" for tackling such a serious topic when it was still super taboo.
11. ...and when she had to testify against the asshole that raped her.
It was so emotional, and just so brave.
12. When Spinner got testicular cancer...
He was in denial for so, so long. Which broke our hearts.
13. When Emma was hospitalized for her eating disorder...
Our girl, Manny, was by her side the whole damn time. #FriendshipGoals
14. When Rick puts Terri in a coma...
Okay, I couldn't stand Terri either, but homegirl did not deserve to get the sh*t beat out of her constantly. Eventually leading her to a coma.
15. When JT and Liberty give their baby up for adoption...
I loved JT more than anything and watching him and Liberty be a little family for just a moment was the most bittersweet moment.
16. When Darcy is roofied, then raped...
The school's "good girl," who is saving herself for marriage, decides to take a total turn for the worst. The scene with her in the bathroom is absolutely horrible—even though she falsely accuses Mr. Simpson of sexual assault, you still feel bad for the girl.
17. When Manny gets an abortion...
She was SO young, and this was honestly just the beginning of Manny getting herself into bad situations.
18. Speaking of bad situations...when Manny flashes Peter and he makes the video public to the entire school.
I hated this kid even when he was considered 'good.' I'll never forget what you did to Manny. You're complete scum.
19. When Jimmy gets shot...
He was the only one who stood up for Rick and this was how he was thanked—mostly due to Spinner being a moron, but still.
20. By far, the worst was when JT was stabbed...
I don't care what anyone says, I'll never be over the death of JT.
