20 Thoughts You Have As A Freshman During OBU Welcome Week

This last week was my third Welcome Week at Oklahoma Baptist University and I loved it! Working Welcome Week (which is our freshman orientation) is a blast and a great way to meet students, but it is even more helpful as a student. I can hardly believe it was three years ago that I experienced this craziness as a freshman. Then I had no idea how much fun I would have helping with Welcome Week. So here are 20 thoughts you have as a freshman during OBU welcome week.
1. Oh my goodness I'm finally here.
2. I'm going to be living and learning in all these buildings.
3. Man, could it be any hotter?
4. These lines are crazy.
5. Why are a bunch of people shaking my car?
6. What random people want to carry my stuff to my room?
7. Yay my stuff is all in my room, but now what do I do?
8. Though I won't admit it, I'm glad my parents are here to tell me where to put everything.
9. I wonder if my room will ever be as organized after mom leaves?
10. Will I be a geek if I wear my name tag all week just so I know the schedule and where I'm supposed to be?
11. This orientation meeting is so boring.
12. What is going on, are these people all just obsessed with Rocky?
13. You mean I wear this beanie thing all the time?
14. Did they say my name yet, do I want them to?
15.What's a tri-W(pronounced tri-dub)?
16. I'm so tired, all I want to do is sleep.
17. *While learning Ka-rip* I thought Baptist didn't believe in speaking in tongues?
18. I don't know if I'll ever understand half of the skits at skit night.
19. Unity gathering-let me try and listen to someone pouring out their heart while not letting my candle go out or pour hot wax all over my hands.
20. Welcome Week has been great but I'm ready for classes to start so I have time to take a nap.

While Welcome Week is crazy and super busy, it honestly is such a blessing. It not only prepares everyone for classes to start, but it also provides important information and gives all students a chance to meet new people. I love OBU Welcome Week and am so blessed to have been a part of it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
