Being in college is awkward. We are at this age where we are sort of adults, but not really. We are given just the right amount of responsibility to make it possible for us to still be semi-dysfunctional and not totally independent.
This creates a weird culture. You put 25,000 plus of these kinds of humans into one town and it can get strange. The things that we experience every day and consider normal are actually pretty socially unacceptable anywhere else.
You realize this only when you step out of your little college bubble, where everyone is just like you, and you go out into the real world. You do the same things you would do if you were still in your college town, yet instead of being accepted you get weird looks.
Here are 20 things that are normal in college and are not normal in real life:
1. Ordering pizza at 3 a.m. and falling asleep before it arrives.
2. Taking “candid” photos.
3. Waking up and having no idea where you are.
4. Staying in the library for over 10 hours.
5. Having to pick up your friends from random places.
6. Losing/breaking your phone often.
7. Constantly having under 50 dollars in your account.
8. Day drinking.
9. Drunk texting.
10. Staying up until 5 a.m. hanging out in a small room with people.
11. Making shirts for everything you do.
12. Considering Thursday a part of the weekend.
13. Wearing last nights make up in public.
14. Having obnoxiously long SnapChat story's.
15. Eating only top ramen for weeks at a time.
16. Using the app "Venmo".
17. Giving your house a name.
18. Drinking wine straight from the wine bag.
19. Calling people that you are not blood related to family names such as "cousin", "twin", "mom", or "nephew".
20. Falling and hurting yourself.
Although it may not seem normal to you, this is totally normal to us. All of these things come together and create the perfect atmosphere for us "kind of adults" to be as dysfunctional as we are supposed to be. It may be a little odd, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
