20 Things I've Learned Since Starting College

Coming into college, we all knew it was going to be a big change from high school. Just how big that change was, that's what we didn't know. You enter a world where you are on your own, without your family for the first time, and you have to learn how to make a life for yourself. Some adjust well, and some not so much. However, since entering college there are certain things that a lot of us have learned and they are taken to heart by many. You learn that what bothered you before, is all you want now. You find what interests you, who matters, and most importantly, you begin to find out who you truly are. I've always said people don't change, but in reality, college has changed me and taught me many lessons. Some were learned the easy way, many the hard way - either way these lessons have changed my perspective on many things in my life and the things I value.

Here are 20 things I've learned since starting college.

1. You never realized how much you actually need your parents and how much they've taken care of you and everything in your life.

2. In high school, you were only friends with most of the people you were because you saw them every single day.

3. Never, ever, ever, cry over someone because I can guarantee there is someone better out there for you (also, girls - your makeup costs way too much to ruin on a boy).

4. You don't have to be apart of the hook-up culture - our generation is labeled that, not you individually.

5. Even if you don't like coffee, it'll grow on your because it's the only way you get through the day.

6. You meet some of your greatest, truest friends your sophomore year; you also find out who isn't your friend.

7. It's not a bad thing to spend a Friday night in the library - school is important.

8. Eventually, sweatpants and comfy clothes become all you wear to class.

9. You appreciate home-cooked meals way more.

10. Ballin' on a budget - where'd my money go?

11. I used to get so annoyed when my family asked so many questions about my life, now I beg them to be nosy and ask me stuff.

12. You get out of school what you put into it.

13.You think you have more time to do stuff than you actually do, so you sit around, take a nap and watch some Netflix, next thing you know it's 9 o'clock and you didn't start homework yet.

14. Life is SO great when puppies come to campus.

15. You learn to do things by yourself and for yourself.

16. Adult-ing is hard.

17. The limit does not exist for the number of times someone asks you "What do you want to do with your major?" And each time you still have no idea.

18. It's okay to eat lunch by yourself.

19. Religion is something to talk about with people, you don't have to hide something that makes you grow and become a stronger person.

20. Home isn't a place, it's a feeling.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
