20 Things I've Learned From Being 20
Molly Martinez

Life is honestly a crazy thing and I'm so glad I have an amazing support system that allows me to push myself to work harder everyday. Here are 20 things that I've learned from being 20 and the amazing things that my family and friends have taught me!

1. It's Okay To Not Be Okay!!

Seems so cliche but, it honestly is okay to NOT be okay! You don't always have to be happy and be the life of the party. Sometimes you feel down but just know that everything is going to get better and talk to people if you need to!!!

2. You Don't Always Have To Be Friends With Everyone

Sometimes it's okay to not be friends with everyone. Having a tight group of friends is better than a sucky friendship with a lot of people.

3. Those That Actually Care About You Will ALWAYS Be There For You

No matter what happens those that actually care about you will always be there to support you even if you did something totally dumb. They will always have your back and will want you to succeed at everything you do!!

4. It's Okay To Get Rid Of Toxic People In Your Life

TRUST ME when I tell you it's OKAY to get rid of toxic people in your life. Sometimes they're the reason that might be holding you back from doing something you want to and honey you need to let them go!!!

5. Call Your Parents Daily

I know that life gets in the way and you "don't have time" to call your parents but trust me they are worrying about you every second of the day! I personally call my parents every morning and night just to let them know what I'm doing that day and that I'm home going to bed. Trust me it doesn't take that much time to update them on your life and they will appreciate that you call them! Love you Mama and Papa <3

6. Your Mom is ALWAYS Right!!!

OMG the amount of times my mom has been right about something kills me. Your Mom knows whats best for you even if you think she doesn't. My mom is probably the most important person in my life and I listen to her about certain things even if I don't want to!

7. Eating By Yourself Is Not A Weird Thing

This took me awhile to actually do but, eating by yourself is actually very peaceful. I recently went to go eat by myself and even though I felt lonely, that was only because they were playing sad songs, I actually enjoyed it. So try it out and lmk how you feel about it!!!

8. Time To Yourself Is Key To Living A Happy Life

Self-Care and Self-Love is a very important thing to have in your life. Just spend a day treating yourself and having a spa day or just laying in bed by yourself watching Netflix. Sometimes you need time to yourself to recuperate from being around people and that's okay!!!!

9. Car Rides With Your Friends Are Like Therapy Sessions

I will never forget the times I drove around King Street with some of my closest friends with the windows down singing at the top of our lungs! Car rides likes this are my therapy sessions and I love them. Trust me you will too! (listen to Never Be Like You by Flume it will change your life!)

10. It's Okay To Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

I know it's hard to do something you're not used to doing but trust me do it!!! I recently did stuff that I would probably never do and let me tell you I'm so glad I pushed myself out of my comfort zone!!

11. It's Okay To Look Like A Fool

Honestly you shouldn't care if people judge you for being you! Dance, sing, or literally just do anything you want to do and don't care what other people think!!!

12. Don't Take Everything To Heart

People will say stuff just to push your buttons and all you need to do is let it gooooooo!!!! They're only saying or doing that stuff because they want a reaction from you and that my friend is when you do nothing to make then mad!! #sorrynotsorry

13. It's Okay To Be Single

Home boys and home girls it is OKAY to be single! You don't need to be in a relationship to be happy!!!!! Live your life to the fullest and enjoy the single life. Don't force yourself into dating someone just because all of your friends are in a relationship or because your lonely.

14. Boys Are NOT Worth Your Tears

Girlypop a boy is not worth a damn tear! Trust me when I say this because you are a beautiful human being that deserves the world and if a boy doesn't see that then guess what? It's time to start strutting yourself somewhere else!!!!!

15. Always Be The Life Of The Party

No matter what it's always better to be the life of the party than to be just there in the crowd. Party it up and sing or dance your heart out!!!

16. Getting Lost Is The Best Way To Have Fun

Getting lost is probably my favorite thing ever! Why? Because you get to find new things that you probably wouldn't have found if you didn't go that way. So get lost and you won't regret it lol.

17. No One Raves Over How They Slept So Great In College

Even though you should probably sleep, sometimes staying up with your friends and doing weird stuff is so much better. I do not regret staying up until 2 or 3 in the morning with my friends just talking or hanging out! So stay up and have a good time #yolo

18. Laughing Is The Best Way To Burn Calories

Have you ever laughed so hard that your stomach started to hurt or you think your going to need your inhaler? Cause same!!! Laughing is probably the best thing that you could do and trust me I do a lot of that, even though my friends tell me to stop.

19. The Easiest Decision Isn't Always The Right Decision

Trust me I know that you just want to choose the easiest way out of something to get it over with, but don't do that!!! Sometimes it's always better to choose hard way because it will teach you things that you never knew before and will push you to work harder!!

20. NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS AT NOMO!!!

Okay, I'm being honest here. Anything that happens at NoMo never ends up well but don't get me wrong I love NoMo and my friends that live there<3 Maybe we can change my thoughts on this next week but for right now NOTHING good ever happens lol.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
