I have been in my 20s for almost a year now and it has been, like all areas of life, a learning experience. I feel like I am caught in some sort of limbo between being a teenager and a full-fledged adult. For the rest of this period of my life, I want to try to get better at a few things.
I'm not saying that I hope to master all of these by the time I hit 30, I'm just saying I want to improve on them. These are 20 things I believe everyone should work on in their 20s.
1. Time management
Being fashionably late has its drawbacks.
2. Forming my own opinions
This is something you can't let others do it for you.
3. Scheduling my own doctor's appointments
Can't my mom just do it forever??
4. Spending and saving money
I need to stop and ask myself, do I really need those new shoes?
5. Making new friends
Meeting new and different people can make your world a lot bigger.
6. Being confident in myself
Confidence is key to accomplishing anything.
7. Trying new things
Trying something new is always an interesting experience. You might just find your new obsession.
8. Listening
Close your mouth, open your ears. You'll be amazed what you can learn
9. Cooking healthy meals
Alfredo tastes great but it's not exactly good for you. Plus, making it yourself is more rewarding.
10. Keeping my room clean
This has been an issue of mine since day one. Too often my room looks like a disaster zone.
11. Being alone
Being able to be alone is an essential part of being independent. It's not always fun, but I think it allows you to get to know yourself better.
12. Practicing empathy
Especially in today's world, try to see things from the point of view of others.
13. Balancing my ever-increasing number of responsibilities
Sometimes I feel like I have a million and one things to do before bed. But, that's what growing up is all about, right?
14. Making time for family and friends
Being busy can make you lose sight of what's important. Always make time for those who are close to your heart.
15. Asking for help
Everyone needs a little help sometimes. This is something to remember when you're too bullheaded to ask.
16. Offering help
It is also something to remember when you see someone else in need.
17. Confrontation
I shouldn't avoid it as much as I do. If something is bothering you, speak up.
18. Not procrastinating
Not waiting until the last minute to do assignment could seriously improve my life. It is much less stressful being on top of everything.
19. Knowing what is going on in the world
We all live on the same earth. Read the paper and watch the news to actually see what is happening in it.
20. Self-awareness
Understanding yourself and how you fit into the world is something everyone should try.
