20 Things I Learned By Age 20
http://www.huffingtonpost.com

I am turning 20 this week, and it gave me time to reflect on the previous years of my life. 20 is a new decade, a time where we graduate college, get a job, friends get married, get an apartment, and experience a new way of life. In the last 20 years, I have learned a lot and experienced a roller coaster of emotions. I have much more to learn but this is what I've learned so far. So I thought I would share!

1. It is what it is.

This is something I have known, but recently accepted. Things happen and you can accept it and move on or hold onto it and become miserable.

2. Not being in a relationship is OK.

When you're a teenager or in your 20s, you don't have anything figured out. I realized loving myself was more important then being in a relationship.

3. You can do anything you set your mind to.

Once you stop complaining and allow yourself to push past your limits the world is yours! Whether it's in sports or academics, you can do anything as long as you push yourself.

4. Your family loves and supports you.

Through all stages of life and through all my sports my family has been there for me through it all. Even when you're living on your own, you should thank them and tell them you love them.

5. You should smile more.

If you're like me and walk around like your mad all the time no one will approach you. So try and be more happy and people will notice you.

6. School isn't everything.

For the longest time, I would put school before anything and that even meant family functions. At the end of the day, you should relax and have fun.

7. You should always eat cake and ice cream.

It's totally OK to be fit, but splurge every once in a while and go eat your favorite dessert just because! Treat yourself!

8. Not everyone you meet will stay in your life.

Through elementary school and now going into my junior year of college, there are only a few friends that have stuck around. Some people aren't meant to stay in your life forever.

9. Surround yourself with people who see your worth.

Why waste your time on people who don't genuinely care and love you? Remove the bad and take in all the good.

10. If you're not happy only you can change that.

No one will be the reason for your happiness. If you're unhappy then it's up to you to get yourself out of the rut and put a smile on your face.

11. It's OK to not follow the crowd.

Be yourself and do what you want! Just because everyone is drinking and going out doesn't mean you have to tag along.

12. Go outside your comfort zone and try new things!

A part of growing up is trying new things and experiencing life. I promise you won't regret it if you went outside your comfort zone. It will be worth it—you'll never know until you try it!

13. Don't settle for just anyone.

This goes for friendships and relationships. Stop settling for people who are not worth your time. If they aren't committed to the relationship or friendship then remove them from your life.

14. You're going to experience heartbreak.

This will happen at some point in your life. I promise it is not the end of the world!

15. Don't turn down a night with your girlfriends over a date with a guy.

Seriously, I regret the numerous times I ditched my girlfriends for a guy. Just don't do it. Years later you'll remember your friends not the guy who broke your heart.

16. Go out by yourself. It's actually not that bad.

There is nothing wrong with spending a little time by yourself. It clears your mind, and you are able to reflect on life.

17. Don't lose your faith.

This is so important and easily lost when you're struggling. Always turn to God because of life he will be there in all areas.

18. Be yourself.

Honestly, you much rather be your true self then fake it. Stop caring about what others think and be the best version of yourself.

19. Stop stressing!

This is a big one. If anyone who knows me then you know how much I stress. In the end, everything will work out for the greater good.

20. Love every inch of yourself.

This is so important in every aspect of life. Start loving yourself more and be happy!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
