Your 20s are 10 years full of new experiences and big changes in your life. It is during this time frame that you might hold an internship or start your first professional job, both of which require key clothing pieces to pull off that "I-may-be-in-my-20s-but-I-can-still-look-professional-and-adult" look. Unfortunately, ladies, you can't wear your sorority letters, leggings, and oversized sweatshirts to work every day like you did in college. Here is the 20-something's closet starter pack:
1. LBD
You can't ever go wrong with a simple and classy little black dress.
2. Black Blazer
It's a basic that you will be able to dress up and down.
3. Classic Skinny Jeans
Some stylists suggest getting a pair of skinny jeans, not jeggings, in three different washes, so that you will have plenty of options no matter the occasion.
4. Striped Shirt
If you don't have this already, I encourage you to go to your local Old Navy and pick one up immediately!
5. White Button-up Blouse
You can layer this under a sweater or cardigan, or perhaps you want to pair it with a statement necklace.
6. A Basic Tee (in gray, black and white)
Again, go to Old Navy!
7. A Nude Pump
Nude heels don't have to be tall to lengthen your legs. The color alone tricks the eye into thinking you've hit a growth spurt.
8. Flats
Preferably black or nude, but maybe with all the neutrals I'm mentioning, you'll want to add a pop of color.
9. Dress Pants
Nice black dress pants are essential and accepted in any work environment.
10. Chambray Shirt
See reasoning for No. 5.
11. Pencil Skirt
See reasoning for No. 9.
12. Denim Jacket
A denim jacket, no matter the wash, brings a casual aspect to any outfit.
13. Tall Boots
I prefer over-the-knee boots because I feel they make my legs look longer, but others find that it cuts their legs in half, making them appear shorter. Whichever style you choose, make sure the brown or black hue doesn't clash with other pieces of your wardrobe.
14. Trench Coat
If your trench coat is waterproof, you have a real gem there.
15. Black Tights
Showing too much skin? Black tights can help.
16. Cardigan
Because you deserve something soft and comfy in your life.
17. Colored Pants (olive, merlot)
These will bring just a great pop of color to your wardrobe.
18. Black Booties
The only thing to question about this one is heel or no heel?
19. Leather Jacket
This piece adds a bit of edge to any outfit.
20. Leather Handbag
Splurge on this item to make sure it's sturdy because something has got to carry all your work stuff...consider it an adult backpack.
