20 Real Life Struggles Women Know Too Well

Often it's a real struggle.

20 Real Life Struggles Women Know Too Well

Every girl knows that being a woman isn’t easy. As soon as we hit puberty, we are told that we now must act as women at such young ages. The problem with this is many of us have to ask ourselves, "What do I need to do to be a woman?" There are so many tasks and dilemmas a woman must face in her everyday life. From inequality to stereotypes, appearances to health problems, women come in contact with various struggles every day. As a woman, it can be irritating to realize we must endure such big dilemmas while men never have to worry about cramps or wages. Some problems may be bigger than others, but one thing is for certain, a day in the life of a woman is awfully difficult.

1. Never being able to find hair ties or bobby pins when you need it most

Seriously, it seems like bobby pins are always running away from you. One second you have 50 hair ties and as soon as you turn your head they’re all gone and you spend an eternity trying to find them.

2. Doing your makeup perfectly and having nowhere to go show it off

There’s nothing worse than having a flawless makeup day, only to waste it watching Netflix alone on the couch

3. When you do finally go out, you can’t get the wings of your eyeliner even

Spending 15 minutes trying to readjust the size of the wings on your eyeliner only to give up and just create black blobs around your eyes.

4. Finally finishing straightening your hair to only realize it’s raining outside and that sleek straight hair will soon be a ball of frizz

Oh you just spent over 30 minutes straightening your hair and it’s humid out? You might want to wear a hat.

5. Cramps!

Whether it’s pre-period or during, I think most girls can agree that the worst part about being a girl is suffering from cramps and feeling as if someone is stabbing you to death.

6. Getting your period and having to deal with the roller coaster of emotions that follow

One minute you are unleashing your wrath on innocent bystanders and the next you're crying because someone ate the last Pop-Tart… the wave of hormones really can make you crazy.

7. Having to decide on a nail polish color at the nail salon

Let’s be honest there is no difference between Midnight Black and Blackest Black but you are going to spend 15 minutes deciding between the two, anyway

8. Guys automatically assume you know nothing about sports

The minute you say tell a boy you like sports, you have to deal with the opposition of him testing your knowledge and dismissing you as an ignorant sports fan poser.

9. Removing every last hair from your body:

The pain, the price, the energy. Enough said.

10. The price of bras

In order to buy a comfortable and cute bra in your size, you pretty much have to offer up your first-born child to afford it.

11. Having to wear bras in general

Sometimes it’s nice to imagine a world where not wearing bras was socially acceptable and everyone could be comfortable and free all day

12. Spending hours trying to decide what to wear, and then giving up only to throw on sweats

Even though you just spent an hour and a half trying on different variations of the same outfit, you still aren’t feeling it, so you throw on sweats and be done with it.

13. Going to the mall on black Friday

You’ll mentally have to prepare yourself for a trip to the mall knowing you’ll have to go Randy Orton on someone for the last pair of Michael Kors boots in a size 5.

14. Wearing uncomfortable clothes solely for the sake of looking good

Although I may look like a million bucks, I feel as if my feet are falling off with these heels and I can’t breathe in these skinny jeans.

15. The struggle of getting that beach body vs. getting that burrito from Chipotle

A six pack or a six piece chicken nuggets from McDonalds? The most important question of my day.

16. Having to decide between getting up early to do your makeup or sleeping in and going to class looking like Sloth from the Goonies

You could skip wearing makeup, but chances are you’ll have about 15 people coming up to you during the day asking, “Are you sick, why do you look so bad?” It really is a lose-lose situation.

17. Having to act proper and civilized when you are in public and counting down the hours until you can let it all hang out at home

How much longer until I can take my bra off, throw my hair in a messy bun, and be a mess?

18. Getting a spray tan to get that beach glow and ending up looking like an Oompa Loompa

You wanted that natural glow, but instead you got the cheese Doritos look.

19. Being treated as an unequal in society

It’s no secret that for years women have been viewed as lesser than men. From pay inequality to job competition, the life of a woman is difficult when she isn’t being treated equally.

20. The countless stereotypes

Where do I even start? There are stereotypes that girls can’t play sports, aren’t as smart as men, aren’t strong, only care about their appearance, and are only useful in the kitchen. All these stereotypes are wrong and make it hard for women to be taken seriously in society.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
