20-Something Grandma

When you're a 70 year old trapped in a 20-something body

Something I have recently thought of and now identify myself as is something called a 20-Something Grandma. It means that you're really a grandmother trapped in a 20-something body. Here are some of the qualities that I've seen in myself and other people that make them identify as a 20-something grandmother

15) Watching HGTV and/or the Food Network

Not to mention watching Clash of the Grandmas and finding it hysterical!

14) Your entire body aches after a long day

Whether you work or have sat around all day, you still find those aches and pains at the end of the day.

13) You still listen to music from "your decade"

For me, I grew up in the 90s, so I always find myself listening to music from the 90s and saying that they don't make music like this anymore.

12) You constantly use slang that's not cool

I used "cool beans" one time and everyone looked at me funny.

11) Your loved ones always complain because you're the party pooper who wants to go to bed at 10

Craig tends to get the most angry at me for this. He lives such a nocturnal lifestyle that I do not, I like to be in bed at 10:30 at least and be up at 7.

10) You go way out for the holidays

Whether it's through decorations or presents, the holiday season brings out the best and worst in you. Craig's grandmother is the kind of grandmother that gives her grandkids goody bags for every holiday. She's the grandmother that I aspire to be when I grow up.

9) You get freaked out by every little thing on the road

OR even not on the road, that's definitely me. I have an irrational fear that something is going to jump out of me while I'm driving, whether that be a deer or a human being

8) You love to bake

This one is not me, but I can definitely see it in my other friends who identify as 20-something grandmas.

7) You got excited about getting compression stockings for Christmas

My ankles swell so much, especially after a full night at my second job, my sister got me compression stockings for Christmas, and I was so excited.

6) You always make sure that your loved ones have everything they need whether its food or shampoo.

I took a gift inventory, and my gift was hospitality. It does make sense because I love to host people and make sure they have everything they need.

5) Collecting animals, whether real animals or made of glass.

I'm not the kind to collect glass animals or anything, but I've seen this in other people do it, and it is such a grandma thing to do

4) You have all the love in your heart for everyone, but no one denies your old lady temper

It has been said that I'm nice and compassionate, which is nice. But I can get mad and tell people to get off my lawn.

3) You rant about "kids these days."

Kids these days, with their iPhones instead of portable CD players and Kindles instead of paperback books. I could go on and on.

2) Crocheting is the best way to pass the time

I personally don't crochet. Someone tried to teach me, and I had no patience to learn it.

1) You wouldn't want to live your life any other way.

I take no shame in being a 20-something grandma. I make fun of myself often, but I wouldn't have it any other way. These qualities I have now will only transition me to adulthood and then grandmotherhood.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
