Everyone who's heard of Sacred Heart University knows that the campus is beautiful and the school is amazing. But you don't know the basic everyday life of a Sacred Heart University student until you are one. Here is a list of everything I've learned my freshman year at SHU.
1. Linda's will always be better than 63's
No matter how hard we all try, the only good thing about 63's is the breakfast food (sometimes). But in order to catch those specialty omelets, you have to be there before 9:30 a.m. After that, the only thing left to get is the froyo and the fruit. Beware of the meat.
2. Linda's bacon egg and cheeses
The line is always super long, but it's worth every second.
3. Candice and MacGee
Candice is the nicest lady ever. But MacGee, yes I live here. I've lived here for 8 months.
4. Uber is life
No matter where you're going on the weekend, Uber is LIFE. You need the Uber app to get anywhere.
5. Have the App.
You will get stared down until you download that Uber App.
6. If you're looking to have a fun night out, there's usually something going on
Thirsty Thursday, Friday, Saturday. There's usually always somewhere or something to do.
7. But going out is hard when trying to save money
Going out is fun no matter where we go, but if I have to pay a cover fee, I might just stay in.
"Let's go here tonight!"
"sure!"
"it's $1 dollar to get in"
"Oh, I think I just came down with a cold. You guys have fun though!"
8. El Gave (agave, il guave, however, you say it).
This is the recent go to. It's hard to breathe, let alone twerk. But even if you're one minute late past 10:30 p.m., you're paying 10 dollars to get in.
9. If you're feeling fancy, TOADS.
This Uber ride is expensive, but it's another go-to place for special occasions. If you're going to Toads, you've definitely been saving up.
10. If you feel like getting mugged, groped or shot, Sugar & Spice.
It's a love/hate relationship with downtown Bridgeport. And to most freshman, it's worth it. Drinking usually requires us to go into the depths of the Bridgeport ghetto, but hey, it's worth it.
11. Outtakes
In order to survive late night studying or a West Civ 8 am, coffee is a must. But don't be afraid to ask for a fresh coffee if they give you one that's been sitting around. Oh, and the line is usually taking up the entire store so be prepared to wait.
12. Running Out of Dining Dollars
It's finals week and I only have 4 dollars left and 20 meal swipes. Do I get an Einstein's bagel or a coffee? Where does all my money go though? 800 dollars of food GONE in four months. I better hit the gym.
13. After Party Linda's
After every night out, Linda's is the place to be. All of Sacred Heart is at Linda's between 12 AM and 2 a.m., because you can't help the munchies when they start to kick in.
14. Fights
You are living in a small space for a long period of time, on top of people. You WILL get into a fight with someone. Just make sure you make up afterward.
15. You Will Be THAT Girl
It could be your birthday weekend, sylly week or just a regular weekend. You will eventually party too much and be THAT girl. But it's okay because we've all been that girl once before. So just let it happen.
16. And You Will be Mom
You will also eventually be taking care of your friends when you're the poor unfortunate soul who didn't get enough to drink. So now you're holding back your roommates hair as she pukes on the side of the road. We all know the famous last words, "Pull over the Uber!"
17. Art of Thinking is torture
Art of thinking will get the best of you. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense. Even when you try to hold it together, Modus Ponens will come back to bite you.
18. Freedom is Expensive
College is the best, but it's also expensive. Uber, food, clothes, shoes, etc. It's all so expensive. If only you could take out a loan for food.
19. A Small Campus is the Best Campus
It feels good to only have a 5-minute walk to class.
20. SHU is where it's at
Despite the trade offs of being freshmen, SHU is growing and will always be home. This school isn't a huge southern school with giant sorority and fraternity houses, but it's a beautiful campus located an hour outside of New York City, and that's even better. SHU is opening up a million new buildings and the construction is just getting started! No matter where we end up, home is where the heart is.
