The 1975: Where Talent Meets Honesty

They might be blunt, but at least they're honest.

If you’re anything like me, your taste in music is spread wide throughout the spectrum, and although it can sometimes seem impossible to show favoritism with such a diverse taste for sound - particular artists currently on the scene have seemed to entirely raise the standards for high-quality music production. Of those artists setting the bar high, English indie rock band, The 1975 has impressively acquired all of the means necessary for distinctive and captivating melodies.

With all of the elements for such a unique sound in mind, The 1975’s leading man Matty Healy and his unapologetic blunt song-writing technique is undeniably to thank for the bands high level of success. Healy’s candid lyrics and lack of concern for the public’s outlook is what makes the band and their music so incredibly relatable. In the midst of a symphony of instruments that create striking melodies, Matty Healy preaches lyrics that portray the harsh realities of life from a painfully honest and personal perspective. There is no doubt that the world is in need of more individuals that find no fear in discussing the unpopular aspects of life, with such an open agenda.

With that said, here are eight lyrics from the 1975 that are nothing less than blunt:

1. Sex:

"And I'm not trying to stop you love, if we're gonna do anything we might as well just f**k."

2. So Far (It's Alright):

"You just write about sex and killing yourself and how you hardly ever went to school."

3. Heart Out:

"Push your lack of chest out, look at my hair. God, I love the way you love yourself. Your obsession with rocks and brown, and f**king the whole town's A reflection on your mental health"

4. Pressure:

"My broken veins say that if my heart stops beating, (Change in pressure) we'll bleed the same way (Change in pressure). Oh, my broken veins say."

5. Love Me:

"You look famous, let's be friends and portray we possess something important, and do the things we like, meaning we've just come to represent. A decline in the standards of what we accept."

6. A Change Of Heart:

"I'll quote "on the road" like a tw*t and wind my way out of the city. Finding a girl who is equally pretty won't be hard. Oh, I just had a change of heart."

7. Somebody Else:

"Get someone you love? Get someone you need? F**k that, get money."

8. Paris:

"There was a party that she had to miss, because her friend kept cutting her wrists. Hyper-politicized sexual trysts. 'Oh, I think my boyfriend's a nihilist'"

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
