If you’re one of the many people who made new years resolutions, chances are at least one of them has to do with health and fitness. But where the heck are you going to start? Counting calories is a pain, doing the same type of exercise again and again gets boring, and your body can only handle so many juice cleanses. However, the good news is that UGA is situated in a city that is teeming with places and things that can help you become the healthiest version of yourself. And let’s be honest, fam, it’s the middle of February, so at least one of your resolutions has probably been doomed by happy hour at Pauley’s or Chik-fil-A. Setting resolutions can be tedious, so if you’re stumped on how to reach your goals, consider trying to complete as many things on this list as you can before 2016 is over.
1. Train for and run the Chik-fil-A half marathon or "Ath Half."
*"Ath Half" is not open for registration yet, but Google is your friend.
2. Earthfare $5 sushi Wednesday
3. Earthfare 5 percent student discount Tuesday
4. Get your vegan on at The GRIT. Seriously, you have not lived until you try tofu and nutritional yeast.
Check out the menu here: http://www.thegrit.com/menu---lunch---dinner.html
5. Buy an all access pass at Ramsey to take unlimited group fitness classes.
6. Replace breakfast or lunch with a protein shake.
My personal fave:
-1 scoop of chocolate flavored protein powder
-8 ounces of unsweetened original Silk almond milk
-2 tablespoons of organic unsweetened peanut butter
-blend that ish in a nutribullet (ice optional) and enjoy
7. Go to Rush to relive your childhood and do some flips n stuff.
Sign your waiver and buy tickets here: http://rushathens.com
8. Commit to walk/run the green way at least two times a week
9. Eat a green vegetable such as kale, spinach, or arugula at least once per day.
(You can blend these in protein shakes, I promise you’ll barely taste it.)
10. Switch your morning brew to black coffee, or replace it with green tea.
11. Walk to class when it gets warmer outside (and avoid being a human Vienna sausage on an orbit bus!)
12. Get your body composition taken at Ramsey for only $1 on 1/18 , 2/18 or 3/17.
13. Try to take at least 10,000 steps per day as recommended by the American Heart Association.
(If you don’t have a Fitbit, the health app on your iPhone tracks this fo free, hollaaa!)
14. Run a sorority’s 5k.
Healthy and philanthropic at the same time? Oh yeah. (Might I suggest Alpha Omicron Pi's Run for the Roses on March 19th?)
15. Sign up for an intramural team.
Seriously, even if you aren’t athletic, there are so many sports to chose from and it’s low commitment.
16. Stop using elevators.
You aren’t a senior citizen and your booty will look 10x better in those $80 Lululemon leggings.
They don't want you to get eight hours of sleep. Stop worrying about them. Stay focused. If I told you sleep wasn't a major key, I would be liiiooon. #BlessUp
18. Make an effort to have “Me Time” at least once a week.
Light a candle, take a bubble bath, read, catch up on your fave Netflix show. Whatever helps you unwind. Being a college student is exhausting, so be sure to take some time to treat yo' self often.
You are busy, you are stressed, but take care of your bodies friends! Go Dawgs,
XOXO Tor
