19 Things Every 19-Year-Old Needs To Hear Right Now

It is at 19 years old that we enter a year-long predicament: we are still young at heart, yet we are on the cusp of adulthood, experiencing a world of change each and every day. Today, I say to you, my fellow teens, to take my advice to heart and remember it on days when you feel like you don't have this life thing figured out.

1. Growing up is not easy!

2. You are always allowed to change your mind.

3. It's OK to not be friends with people who don't make you happy. If they're toxic, cut them out of your lives. You don't need them; change is healthy.

4. You can't live your life on six hours of sleep forever.

5. Speak up for yourself; you may be young, but you're still allowed to have a voice.

6. You know yourself better than anyone, so trust yourself.

7. The past is the past for a reason and it's always going to be there. Do yourself a favor and let it go -- you'll be better off for it.

8. Call your parents for more than just to ask for money. Ask them how their day was and how they're doing. Listen to them when they talk, they probably have some good advice mixed in with all the nonsense.

9. Don't compare yourself to others; everyone is their own person.

10. Take some risks and don't limit yourself. Go on an adventure, but always remember where you came from and where you want to go.

11. Spend a little extra money on the better, healthier food and your body will thank you for it.

12. Don't settle for anything less than you deserve.

13. It's OK to be alone sometimes.

14. Make the most of every moment, no matter if it's good or bad.

15. People aren't always going to like you, but the ones who do are the ones you should be paying attention to.

16. Life is too short to be beating yourself down every day. So start working yourself up. Every morning look in the mirror and tell yourself one thing you like about yourself, it'll start your day off on a better note.

17. "Everybody makes mistakes." --Hannah Montana

18. You're not missing out if you don't go to that party.

19. You are smart enough, strong enough, good enough, beautiful enough, brave enough, kind enough, talented enough, and creative enough to figure this out. You will make it through this and you will be okay.

20. (For good luck.) Believe in yourself!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
