How am I already 19?

In honor of celebrating my 19th birthday, I thought I would write a list of 19 lessons that I have learned about life. As the years go on I wish to learn more lessons, so one day when I am hopefully old and wise my list can grow five times the size of this list.

1. Everything happens for a reason.

Do not question the reason why thinks happen, because there is a plan for each person on this Earth. Everything will eventually make sense.

2. Do everything with kindness.

Simply be kind to others, you will feel guilty if you are mean to them.

3. Include God in your life.

All things are possible with God. Pray every day, thank him for everything he has given you and for everything he will give you.

4. Doing your best is enough.

As long as you can say that you tried your best, be proud of that, that means more than winning.

5. Say "I love you" as often as you can.

One day you will not be able to tell those who you love it.

6. Say “please” and “thank you.”

Always make sure to use your manners with everyone. No matter their title, it is the simplest way to show signs of respect for others.

7. Smile

This is the prettiest thing you can wear. Your smile is brightening someone’s gloomy day.

8. Show people your appreciation for them.

Make sure to tell them, but be sure to show them in your actions.

9. Work hard

Nothing is handed to you on a silver platter. If you work hard, you will go far.

10. Follow your dreams, not the money.

Chose a path in life that you are passionate about. Do not choose a path because of the money. If you are passionate about what you do, the money will follow.

11. Travel

See the world. Experience new things. Meet new people.

12. Just be happy.

Other people will gravitate towards you if you are happy.

13. Spend time with your family.

No matter how busy you are, make time for your family. Your family is the reason you are where you are today.

14. Turn your phone off.

Look up from the screen, life is happening right in front of you, and if you do not hurry you may miss it.

15. Sing in the shower.

Be the star of your own concert, no matter how bad of a singer you think you may be.

16. Exercise daily.

Physical health is very important, do something that you enjoy to do, you will feel better after you work out.

17. It is OK to be upset, for a little while.

Crying is needed sometimes. Cry it out. Then get over it, do not dwell on it. Tomorrow is always a new day.

18. Challenge yourself

Take a chance and do something you have never done before, you may surprise yourself with everything you can accomplish.

19. Life is short, buy the shoes and eat the chocolate.

Simply said, time goes by too quick. If you like something in the store, buy it. Do not cringe at a meal you eat because it is a certain number of calories. Eat a cheeseburger, chocolate, or cake, life is too short to be on a diet, eat what makes you happy.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
