18 Perks of Having a Gay Best Friend

What better than a girlfriend? A gay friend.

Perhaps by now, you've heard of the term "gay best friend." This typically involves a girl with a guy best friend who is gay. Personally, I know how much fun it is to have a gay best friend. We were practically attached at the hip... We even live together.

Our apartments over the years were nothing less than hilarious and comforting. Quite often they felt more like home than our parent's home. Grocery shopping trips were always more of an adventure than one might typically imagine them to be. Christmas decorations sprawled about the apartment year-round. Two kittens came into our lives and quickly became the children that were strictly "his" cats when they got on my nerves.

So, without further ado, enjoy this list of perks to having a gay best friend that make me smile from ear to ear.

1. Cooking extravaganzas

Usually includes dancing and singing of show tunes.

2. Fellow wine enthusiast

Which usually accompanies the cooking extravaganzas.

3. Fashion critiques

And the occasional trading of clothes: skinny jeans for a fabulous dress!

4. Shopping Sprees

Not always for clothes, either. Sometimes y'all need to hardcore restock that fridge.

5. Gym buddy

No need to fear to look like a fool when you have your best friend to drag to Zumba classes.

6. Homework buddy

Always good for some motivation. Or sometimes some procrastination.

7. Bar Hopping

Not only keep each other safe, but also be a wingman and get each other's drunk ass home in one piece.

8. Video Games

Even if you're not a gamer it's good to have some fun and blow off a little steam.

9. Binge-watching Netflix

My personal favorites were Bob's Burgers, Orange is the New Black and Family Guy.

10. Sorority Sisters

I found my gay best friend while he was rushing my co-ed sorority. I took him as my Little and we grew as Sisters and friends.

11. Guardian angel

We bring each other comfort food, save each other from creepy guys at the bar, and playing sidekick when retrieving Craigslist items.

12. Honesty

The truth is always good no matter how harsh.

13. Daily dose of sass

And depending on the day, sometimes it's an hourly dose of sass.

14. Phone call just to catch up

Even if you saw each other an hour ago. He calls just to say he's on his way home from class and he's looking forward to cooking dinner.

15. Movie buddy

He's always up for a flick. Once in a while, he'll suggest a sappy movie that makes you cry like a baby. My kryptonite was The Fox and The Hound.

16. Secret Keeper

No one I trust more with my deepest hopes and fears.

17. Not afraid to say "I love you"

Unlike those silly boyfriends, the gay best friend openly expresses that he loves you and he misses you when you've been in class all day.

18. He will love you always, no matter what

Even after graduation and moving to different states, he will always be a simple phone call away.

Thank you, Josh, for being there for me. This one's for you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
