Sometimes to get us through the dreary winter ahead of us, we have to look back on the summer hits. The ones that we blare in our cars, sing off the top of our lungs, and make memories with. I compiled the #1 summer hits based off of Billboard's rankings for each year since 2000.

1. "Bent"- Matchbox Twenty (2000)

The first summer hit of the new millennium brought more Indie-rock vibes than pop. It was still a jam that you could relate/relax to. Matchbox Twenty really brought it with this song.

2. "U Remind Me"- Usher (2001)

Usher is one of the most iconic artists of the 2000's. His soulful music would connect you to your emotions, while his pop would get you dancing out of your seat. He raised the bar with this hit.

3. "Hot In Herre"- Nelly (2002)

This is a song I feel like everyone is born knowing. Nelly created probably one of the most known dance singles. No wonder it was the number one summer success!

4. "Crazy In Love"- Beyonce feat. Jay-Z (2003)

Beyonce, known as "Queen Bey," has released many popular tracks, but nothing will compare to this song. Her energy and spirit give such a carefree vibe that anyone can relate too. Her and Jay-Z made this such a wonderful track

5. "Confessions Part II"- Usher (2004)

Usher is back again with such an amazing soulful track. Don't get me wrong, his pop hits are great, but when he truly sings, it's mind blowing. He draw people in and captivates them with this single.

6. "We Belong Together"- Mariah Carey (2005)

Mariah Carey has such a powerful voice that wants to be heard. Her Christmas song is probably the most known, but this song was definitely a 2005 summer hit for a reason.

7. "Promiscuous"- Nelly Furtado feat. Timbaland (2006)

This 2006 pop duet was legendary. Every time it comes on i'm ready to dance and perform both parts by myself. They mention lots of deeper points throughout the song too which I find very important.

8. "Umbrella"- Rihanna feat. Jay-Z (2007)

In 2007, Rihanna and Jay-Z really brought it with this song. I still remember wanting to dance in the rain while singing this just because it was so great.

9. "I Kissed A Girl"- Katy Perry (2008)

Katy Perry began to climb to stardom with hits like this and "Hot and Cold." She brought the vocals and rose to the number one summer hit quickly with this song.

10. "I Gotta Feeling"- The Black Eyed Peas (2009)

The Black Eyed Peas were my band growing up. I mean, who doesn't love both Fergie and Will.I.Am? "I Gotta Feeling" gave me a feeling of amazing vibes. They were the techno/pop group of the 2000's

11. "California Gurls"- Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg (2010)

Katy Perry comes back with another successful hit, bringing along the legendary Snoop Dogg. "California Gurls" was the bubblegum pop song that introduced us to the 2010's.

12. "Party Rock Anthem"- LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett and GoonRock (2011)

Middle School me remembers running out to the dance floor every time this song came on and just going wild. It brought your inner party-self out no matter who you were. LMFAO really brought the party anthems.

13. "Call Me Maybe"- Carly Rae Jepsen (2012)

This was one of those songs where you didn't want to like it, but anytime it played you just began to sing. Jepsen's spirited energy propelled this to become the number one summer hit for 2012.

14. "Blurred Lines"- Robin Thicke feat T.I and Pharrell (2013)

"Blurred Lines" was a dance song that shocked the nation with the original music video. There is plenty of controversy with this song, but it still climbed its way to number one in 2013.

15. "Fancy"- Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX (2014)

Iggy Azalea really made her and Charli XCX's name with "Fancy." Both women were powerhouses in their own genre's mixing rap and pop to create the perfect summer hit.

16. "Cheerleader"- OMI- Felix Jaehn Remix (2015)

OMI created a bubbly carefree song about a girl that he truly loves. The beat is light and airy, just like his voice. This will always be a summer song filled with so many memories.

17. "One Dance"- Drake feat Wizkid and Kyla (2016)

Drake had so many amazing hits in the year of 2016. "One Dance" was always blaring in my car during the summer. It's relaxed but it brings you to your feet just so you can let loose.

18. "Despacito"- Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber (2017)

2017 was a wild year filled with many potential summer hits, but the one that takes the number one spot, was none other, than "Despacito." The remixed version featuring Justin Bieber rose quickly and stayed at the top for weeks. The song was truly the song of the summer.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
