History majors go though a lot of stress and work hard. But their experiences are a common aspect to many college students. Here are some of them explained by moments all history majors go through..
1. When you realize you need to order ten books for one class
Welp, I guess I’m not going to be having a social life this term. Do I really have to read them all?
2. When you realize the amount of reading you need to be doing
170 pages in two days? You got this. Wait, actually, you don’t. Help. Here we go, all-nighters.
3. When you’re not in a history class and the professor gives a lecture on how to cite things not in Chicago Style
Why are all the other formats so complicated?
4. When you have to write four different essays for four different classes
I got this. Wait, no, I don’t. I’m just going to sit here and cry over my impending doom and while I write about four different topics that are totally unrelated to each other!
5. When there are cluttered books and post-it notes all over your room
While others are partying, and have their small assignments, you need to notate basically everything.
6. When you Wikipedia the topic to get more information
No big deal here, Professor. I'm just getting information. Keep talking. I’m seriously listening! Also, Wikipedia is totally a verb. No, it isn’t, I made it up. But…you get what I’m talking about
7. When you have to deal with book reviews
You’re basically writing things for people to use as a topic! Yay!
8. When your best friend is either footnotes or End notes.
There’s no either or. And there's probably an enemy too.
9. When your best friend are also JSTOR, and historical newspapers
JSTOR, I love you. So much. What would I do without you?
10. When people tell you history is just facts and dates
If it was, I wouldn't be writing these four papers!
11. When you're your own "Drunk History" narrator, and you have fun doing it
I love you, "Drunk History." Plus, you’re pretty accurate!
12. When crying over assignments is acceptable
It’s also acceptable to have a mid-life crisis in college; you got this, though.
13. When you’re able to find that secondary source and don't have to order it online
Praise the college library and not having to wait four days for I-SHARE!
14. When people ask what you’re doing after you graduate when you’re not going for teaching
I'll figure that out. Eventually.
15. When coffee is your best friend
And tea. And soda. And basically any caffeinated beverage.
16. When you expand your historical knowledge
Vikings were the first people to land in the America in the year 1000 AD. Take that, Columbus!
17. When you get a chance to really think about what happened, why, and how is it relevant now
18. When you finally get the chance to really expand your passion and do something you love, read stories about the past, and have a chance of telling a story that hasn’t been told before!
Keep being you, history majors!
