Every year when Valentine's Day comes a around there is a plethora of single people who feel the need to celebrate their loneliness (yes, I am one of these people). Single people have found ways to celebrate or to distract themselves. Some of the things single people do to commemorate this day can get pretty strange.
1. Glare at cute couples with a bone-crippling intensity.
2. Smile at attractive and unsuspecting strangers from a distance.
3. Duck your head and make a quick escape when they absolutely refuse to smile back.
4. Have a dance party by yourself.
5. Go to a party full of other people... and still dance by yourself.
6. Eat an entire bucket of fried chicken as a pre-chocolate appetizer.
7. Do some relaxing coloring to keep you off Instagram, and Facebook...and Twitter.
8. Beg your friends to explain why you're still single, as if they'd tell you the truth.
9. Promise yourself you will not be single on the next Valentine's Day.
10. Re-download Tinder even though it's never actually worked for you before.
11. Regret downloading Tinder because there are some creepy people on there.
12. Wonder what it would be like to be single forever, and then freak out a little.
13. Finally, give in to your temptation and check the parade of relationship updates filling up your social media news feed.
14. Watch a sappy movie.
15. Be entirely and completely jealous the entire time.
16. Finally, accept your unfortunate reality as a single person on a couple's holiday.
17. Call your parents and tell them that they are the only Valentine you can truly rely on, and you love them for it.
Yeah ok, so Valentine's Day is weird for single people. It's just another day. A day with a lot of pressure that doesn't apply to you, but also somehow feels like it does. Don't sweat it if you're single, just snuggle up with some Netflix and a box of chocolate. You'll make it through.
