I know what you're thinking: 17 resolutions? I can never even successfully commit to one!
Following through with a resolution for 365 days is a large commitment, and it can be incredibly difficult. In fact, only 8% of people are actually successful in achieving their resolution.
Why is this statistic so low? Probably because people set highly unrealistic goals for themselves on January 1st and realize around March that what they promised to do is too hard to keep up with all year. That is why this year you should set goals for yourself that are actually plausible!
Here are 17 fool proof resolutions you can make for 2017 and still be committed to by December 31!
1. Smile more often. At strangers. At puppies. Everywhere.
2. Stop sweating the small stuff. If you won't care about it in a year, it's not important enough to worry over too much.
3. Capture more moments with your eyes instead of a camera. Memories last longer than a photo.
4. Laugh at things that you think are funny. If your belly doesn't ache, you're doing it wrong.
5. Stop laughing at things you don't think are funny. Your friend will stop making dumb jokes if you stop pretending they're funny.
6. Learn how to cook a nice, new meal and master the recipe. Impress all your friends later.
7. Read a book outside of your favorite genre. If you typically read romance, go for a historical fiction. You'd be surprised how much you can enjoy things when you step outside of the box.
8. That thing you said you've been wanting to do for a while? Do it. Life is too short to not do what makes you happy.
9. Show appreciation for the important people in your life more often. Saying "thank you" or "I appreciate you" is simple to do and it can go a long way.
10. Try to eat healthier. Your body will thank you. Maybe put down that second doughnut and just drink some water instead.
11. Do something totally out of your comfort zone. Talk to a stranger about their day. Be extreme and go bungee jumping. Push your limits; it's the only way to grow.
12. Spend more time enjoying nature. Literally stop and smell the roses.
13. Learn how to enjoy being alone sometimes. If you can't enjoy being in your own company, no one else will be able to either.
14. Expand your creativity. Paint a picture, write something, or pick up an instrument. Everyone has a creative side and it deserves to be nourished.
15. Go somewhere new. It doesn't have to be somewhere crazy like Bermuda or Scotland. Take a trip to a local restaurant you haven't visited before. You may find a new favorite lunch spot.
16. Read some poetry and find a favorite poem. It's much more impressive to discuss your favorite poem on a first date than your favorite t.v. show.
17. Invest more time in the things that make you happy. Eliminate the things that don't.
Hopefully you can find a few resolutions to set for yourself this new year and actually stick to them. Good luck with your goal setting, and have a happy new year!
