As the year begins and the pressure of classes starts kicking in, all UVa students are on a roll. Some are filling out their planners, others are training for a tournament and others are simply stuck on SIS trying to decide what classes to drop. However, there is one threat that seems to be common amongst us: personal oblivion. Between classes and readings, a lot of us get lost somewhere in the formulas and paragraphs, and manage to completely neglect our core values, principles and traits. To avoid this, here are a few quotes that will be extremely helpful when trying to re-center yourself at the beginning of the semester:

1. "As long as you are being true to yourself, you will always find happiness." -Amber Riley

2. "Everything takes time... And that's something your generation find it a lot harder to adjust to. You have all grown up expecting things to go your way almost instantaneously. You all expect to live the lives you choose. Especially a successful young man like yourself. But it takes time" -Jojo Moyes

3. "Always keep an open mind and a compassionate heart." -Phil Jackson

4. "You can only grow if you´re willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new." -Brian Tracy

5. "We need to strive to keep things in proper balance. Good balance comes in doing things in a timely way and in not procrastinating our preparation or waiting to fulfill our responsibilities until the last minute." -M. Russell Ballard

6. "You didn't come here to make a choice. You already made it. You're here to try to understand why you made it." -The Matrix

7. "You don't always need a plan. Sometimes you just need to breathe, trust, let go, and see what happens." -Mandy Hale

8. "Comparing yourself to others is an act of violence against your authentic self." -Iyanla Vanzant

9. "As you get older, you're always maturing, you're always learning something new about yourself." -Troy Vincent

10. "Independence isn't doing your own thing; it's doing the right thing on your own." -Kim John Payne

11. "Having a few true friends is better than having a thousand fake ones." -Jennifer Shao

12. "Be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help and brave enough to ask for it." -Zaid K. Abdelnour

13. "Sleep is an investment in the energy you need to be effective tomorrow." -Tom Rath

14. "I feel I learned as much from fellow students as from the professors." -Jack Steinberger

15. "You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream." -C.S. Lewis

16. "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm." -Winston Churchill

17. "Most importantly, keep on smiling because life is a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about." -Marilyn Monroe

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
