Gucci is free. After three years in prison, Gucci Mane has come home. Some may say Gucci is the definition of "not hip-hop," but those people are boring and wrong. Guwop is a national treasure, and one of the most important forces in hip-hop. To educate the misinformed, here are 17 reasons we need to celebrate Gucci Mane.
1. Waka Flocka Flame
Gucci's ultimate protegee and most frequent collaborator is a major part of Guwop's legacy. Although the two have had problems in the past, they seem to have worked past it and will likely be dropping new music together soon. Bricksquad forever.
2. "Lemonade"
The best song in Gucci's massive library, hands down. It's Guwop on his best ad-lib game over an effortlessly bouncy and fun beat. An absolute classic. IT'S GUCCI.
3. His Ad-Libs
Classic Gucci ad-libs ranked
1."Brrr" (An all-time great.)
2. "IT'S GUCCI"
3. "Well Damn"
4. "Yeeaaahhh"
Gucci ad-libs over everything.
4. Young Thug
Besides Birdman, Gucci is Thugga most important mentor. In other words no Gucci, no Thug, and that's just depressing.
5. The Ice Cream Face Tattoo
Legendary. Possibly the greatest face tattoo of all-time.
6. Mike Will Made-It
Just one of the Atlanta producers that owes his career to Gucci. Mike has gone on to work with some of the biggest musicians in the world, and has said that none of it would be possible without Guwop giving him his start. The two are so close, Gucci chose him to produce the first track he released once he got out.
7. #FreeGucci
Possibly the most well known hashtag of all time, and a rally cry for the youth. Thankfully Gucci is now free, and let us hope that it will never have to be used in ernest again.
8. Future
Gucci and Future's collaborative mixtape "Free Bricks" is superb, and the dynamic pair will likely release more music together soon. Even more important than their work together is this: without Gucci we would not have Future. Thank you La Flare.
9. His Work Ethic
No one has released more mixtapes than Wop. They all might not be flawless projects, but the amount of time and energy Gucci has put into them is impressive.
10. Migos
Just like Thug and Future, the Migos recieved the ultimate cosign from Guwop, and their career took off. The trio and
11. Willingness To Collaborate
Guwop has collaborated with everyone in the game, regardless of region or genre. He has full length projects with many rappers, and is always good for a varied and copious amount of features on his solo projects.
12. His Style
The glasses. The chains. The coats. Gucci is a fashion icon.
13. His Humor
Gucci is a hilarious mane. Picture above says it all.
Sidenote: Do yourself a favor and Google "Gucci Mane" and scroll through the images; so many gems.
14. The Respect He Commands
Everyone in hip-hop respects La Flare. Those he has worked with owe him their careers. Not everyone may like him, (see the large and varied list of rappers he has beefed with) but they acknowledge what he has been able to do.
15. His Social Media
Gucci has had a number of classic tweets, many dissing other rappers, all of them uniquely Guwop. While he may have learned to settle it down a bit, there is likely to be some gold in the Gucci Mane social media future.
16. His Uniqueness
No one is quite like Guwop. Everything about him is singular and different. His voice is unmistakable, his style is unmistakable, everything about him is unmistakable. Everything is Gucci.
17. Atlanta Rap as a Whole
Besides the rappers and producers specifically listed above, Gucci is a force and pioneer in the ATL rap scene. He has allowed young rappers to be themselves by being himself. He has guided them and released music with them. Atlanta, and the world, has to celebrate the release of Gucci Mane.
