17 Moments When We Were All Matt The Radar Technician

On Jan. 16, Star Wars actor Adam Driver hosted "Saturday Night Live." As the first SNL host of 2016 and coming off of the highest-grossing film ever, not to mention the fact that the episode premiered right after a widely watched NFL Playoff game, the pressure had to have been staggering for the 32 year old. Thankfully though, Adam Driver delivered a fantastic performance, even in the most unfunny of sketches, with the most notable sketch of the night requiring him to dawn his Kylo Ren costume once again for a genius Star Wars themed parody of ABC's "Undercover Boss." Of course it was to be expected that the best of the sketches in the audience's opinion would be the big Star Wars parody, but what no one expected was for the imminent rise to fame of Kylo Ren's alias, Matt the Radar Technician. Within the span of two days, Matt the Technician became a trending topic on Tumblr, his sketch has already reached almost 9 million views on YouTube, and someone has even gone as far as creating an official Matt the Radar Technician Action Figure. So what is it about this average technician that has taken over the hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere? Well, for most people, its the fact that inside all of us is an awkward Star Killer Base radar technician. Sometimes we can see Matt in us in just our every day lives. Here are only a few examples of how we ALL carry the spirit and complexity of our lord and savior, Matt the Radar Technician.

1. When you have to introduce yourself to a group of people and it's super awkward

2. When someone agrees with your argument or opinions

3. When your friend gets "hangry" and lashes out at you

4. When your co-worker is being a Jerkface

5. Anytime you're being yelled at for something by a superior

6. When all you wanna do is talk about the real issues in the world but everyone's mind is in the gutter

7. That moment when someone bashes your problematic fave in front of you

8. When you try to defend your actions or opinions but words simply fail you

9. When you're forced to write an apology even though you're not sorry whatsoever

10. Anytime when you have no idea what you're doing

11. When you finally understand the meaning of those stupid motivational posters

12. When you find something cool and wanna show it off to everyone

13. That moment of disappointment when you realize you totally suck at pulling off pranks

14. When you try your hand at Tinder but you can't think of something witty for your Bio

15. When you're too obsessed with Kylo Ren that he's all you ever talk about

16. When you find someone else whose in love with Kylo Ren

And, finally...

17. When you've somehow become the first internet meme of 2016

So what does this exactly mean for all of us who relate so much to this lowly alias? Does this mean that we are socially awkward workers who have no clue what a Calcinator looks like? Or could it mean that prior to our inability to believe in ourselves, that each of us in turn has a bit of the First Order Sith Lord himself within us, and that even someone as clumsy or awkward as us can someday rule over a galaxy far, far away with an iron fist and a dangerous-looking lightsaber.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
