Today, the world is not where we want it to be; it's facing some major issues that we need to fix. Things like racism and sexism still unfortunately exist in our society today, and this year, those problems were more apparent in our society than ever before. But that doesn't mean that 2017 was horrendous. Let's face it: some really cool things did happen. So with my last article of the year, I thought I could wrap it up with 15 pop trends that made 2017 pretty epic.

1. Debut of the iPhone X

Still no flying cars, but we're getting there.

2. International K-Pop heartthrobs, BTS, take over America.

BTS won the Top Social Artist Award at the Billboard Music Awards, overcoming other famous artists like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. They also had their American debut at the American Music Awards. Not to mention they'll be performing in New York during the New Year's Eve annual countdown!

3. FINALLY! A female superhero movie that destroyed stereotypes — "Wonder Woman"

Wonder Woman also destroyed the domestic box office records for a movie directed by a female.

4. The "Harry Potter" series turned 20!

This all-generations classic celebrated its 20th birthday this year, and people of all ages celebrated its reign for this long!

5. America experienced its first total solar eclipse in 40 years.

It was also the perfect day to skip school (since it was a county-excused day).

6. Beyonce gave birth to twins!

She's Beyonce. Of course this made 2017 more awesome!

7. Unicorn Frappuccinos came into existence.

Let's hold a moment of silence for all the Starbucks employees who suffered during the three-day apocalypse.

8. India planted 66 million trees in just 12 hours.

9. Twenty-One Pilots accepted their Grammy award without pants.

You heard — err — read me correctly.

10. Cardi B became the first solo female rapper to top the Billboard 100 in over 15 years.

WOOH! Girl-power!

11. Serena Williams played the Australian Open while being pregnant.

And she won.

12. The Kennedy Assassination Files were released.

It didn't bring complete closure, but it was better than nothing.

13. Astronauts discovered seven Earth-like planets, of which three can hold life.

If some people still refuse to believe in climate change, then those planets might just be our next home-sweet-home.

14. The worldwide phenomenon, "Stranger Things," saw a second season comeback.

And Netflix confirmed a third season!

15. Liberia had its first peaceful transition in government power in over 70 years.

16. Fidget Spinners kept the world from going insane.

17. A group of teenage Afghanistan girls was allowed to enter the U.S by President Trump, to compete in a robotics competition.

Shocked? Looks like there is some good left in this world.

Keep your chin up and hopes high. 2017 was a pretty great, but let's make 2018 even greater. Happy New Year to all my fellow readers!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
