17 Fun Winter Date Ideas

If you are anything like me, winter is not your favorite time of year. The warm sunshine hides away, and all we are left with is the cold, white snow. However, since winter is in full swing, it is time to make the most of it, right? I have compiled a list of fun activities you can do with your bae (or with friends or solo!) this frosty season.

1: Go Sledding

Grab a sled and run for the hills! If you do not have a sled, you can snag a cheap one off of Amazon, and one for your boyfriend or girlfriend, too.

2: Go Ice Skating

You may not be an Olympic figure skater, but that does not mean you can't have a great time out on the ice rink! Lace up your skates and get out there!

3: Build a Snowman

Even if you don't have a corncob pipe, a button nose, and two eyes made out of coal to use for a snowman, you can still make a fabulous snowman with your significant other.

4: Make Fireplace S'mores and Listen to Holiday Music

S'mores are a delicious and simple treat to make for a "snowed in" date night. Turn on your local Christmas station to really get into the holiday mood.

5: Make Hot Cocoa, Cuddle, and Watch Netflix

If you are anything like me and you are not about to leave your warm bed to go outside and brave the elements, this may be the perfect winter date idea for you! After all, not much beats cuddling and cocoa.

6: Go on a Horse Drawn Sleigh Ride

Straight out of a romantic movie. It's classy, and a fun way to see a big city like Chicago!

7: Have an Indoor Picnic

Pack your picnic basket with yummy snacks and relive your childhood by building a blanket fort to have your picnic in!

8: Bake Sweet Holiday Treats Together

Snickerdoodles, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies...the list is endless. Santa is not the only one who deserves cookies and milk! Treat your sweet tooth!

9: Shop and Donate Food and Toys at your Local Animal Shelter

If you are an avid animal lover like myself, this is a fun way to give back this season to animals who may not have a home for the holidays. Most shelters would let you pass out the toys to the lucky pups and cats, too!

10: Shop and Donate Holiday Presents for Less Fortunate Families

We all know the holiday season is about giving, and this is a great way to do just that. With your help, less fortunate families will be able to put presents under the tree this holiday season.

11: Drive Around and Look at Christmas Lights Together

Granting that the roads are not slippery, driving around with your boyfriend or girlfriend to look at lights can be a fun and relaxed activity to partake in this holiday season,

12: Go to a Hockey Game

Sports games are always a fun activity, and hockey is no exception! Watch your favorite team out on the ice, professionally or locally!

13: Have a Craft Day

A fun and festive craft for you and your boyfriend or girlfriend to make would be homemade ornaments for each other. All you need is a creative mindset, but if you are lacking on the creative side, here is a link to some simple DIY ornaments your bae will love! http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/holidays/christmas-ideas/g393/homemade-christmas-ornaments/

14: Decorate a Tree Together

Whether you go to a tree farm and cut one down for yourselves or have a fake tree, decorating any Christmas tree with lights, ornaments, and tinsel is just another fun way to get into the holiday spirit with your love!

15: Build a Ginger Bread House Together

Ginger bread house kits are available at most stores around this time of year and are an inexpensive holiday activity. Decorate your house with your favorite candy and frosting!

16: Have a Snowball Fight

Snowball fights are a classic way to make the best of the snow. Round up some of your friends and with your significant other and have a snowball fight competition. Think dodgeball from elementary school gym class, but with snowballs. You are never, ever too old for a snowball fight.

17: Have a Board Game Night

Board games and the holidays seem to go hand in hand, so what better way to have a warm, indoor date night?

Most of all, take some time to be thankful for your loved one this holiday season, and spend some quality time with them doing these activities to create memories that will last a lifetime! Enjoy the holiday season, everybody!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
